Heard in the supermarket this week - ''everybody becomes diabetic when they get older.''

People actually believe that.  Or it's in their genes as mentioned here.

So if your dad ate steak egg and chips three times a day and died of a heart attack, then you'll probably die of a heart attack despite what you eat.

Which is like saying, if your dad committed suicide then you're likely to kill yourself as well.

Bad luck G Hall.

Cases of diagnosed Diabetes are increasing rapidly.
Here's an article from 2008 showing an increase of 90% for America in ten years.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2769839/

It's startling figures like these that made me gather as much information about the disease that I could, in order that I could make adjustments to my diet and avoid developing the killer myself.

S2 diabetes hereditary?  I don't think so.

People really need to know about nutrition if they're serious about losing weight and staying slim once the weight is off.
Otherwise hey simply put it all back on again.

They need to know how the body deals with the three main parts of food, which are carbs, fat and protein.
This is also essential if they're diabetic and are going to try and reverse it.

S2 diabetes hereditary?  I don't think so.

My Mrs would beg to differ. She is the eldest of 6 siblings, all bar the youngest have type 2. Her mother had it and her mother's two sister also. Her maternal grandmother also had it. Needless to say the youngest sibling, aged 52, is awaiting his fate but trying to eat healthily.

The 3 female siblings are overweight but the 2 males are a normal weight.

Crippen - you f*cking idiot.

You are quite wrong (as always) in loads of places.
Among the states I'm in is to be a diabetic, and trust me, you are no saviour of diabetics. There is always provocation where you're concerned simply because you don't know very much about anything.

You have no magic cure, and people with the condition don't need YOU telling them it's always avoidable.
It isn't.

crystal, as Denzil said earlier, the same lifestyles and diets will have the same effects on the body.

One of the links I gave early clearly shows that some people are more susceptible to S2 than other people are.
It's to do with their ability to handle dietary fat.
If that's hereditary then I stand corrected, but the hereditary angle doesn't account for the many new cases of diabetes occurring in S2 free families.

Thanks for all the advice and offers of help if somewhat confusing Crazy First thing I've done is tell Slimming World they won't be seeing me again. As for diet I will increase my vegetable intake although I'm quite good. A lot of my meals are vegetable based on the meat front I eat mainly chicken and 5% fat mince. As for my carbs I shall moderate them and have already switched to wholemeal rice and pasta. Also I apparently need to not eat to much fruit in one sitting. Again SW free food so would have a banana, satsuma and an apple with a bowl of porridge. My bloods are 6.7 I get to see the diabetes nurse in three months time so hopefully I can get my blood sugars down by then. My knees are shot but I do try and walk each day. Given my weight the app I'm using say I should do 6,000 steps a day which appears to be quite easily achievable. Hopefully small changes will give me some positive results. Again thanks.
Report DenzilPenberthy • November 7, 2018 11:11 PM GMT
No bother dan seems like you wouldn't need to make too much of an adjustment to eat similar to me when I was dropping early weight.

For this dietary remedy to be effective, the fat has to be cleared out of the glucose receptors.

All meat, fish and dairy is fat.
Vegetable oil is liquid fat, nuts are full of fat. Avocado the health food is fat.

You have to stop eating fat, or your efforts will have limited results.
Report DenzilPenberthy • November 8, 2018 12:42 PM GMT
Without doubt the dropping of the meat and dairy were the key for me which I found out through practical experience.
The use of animal proteins in trying to lose weight definitely comes from the old bodybuilding ways of trying to preserve muscle whilst using only fat for energy, this is very difficult for someone with insulin issues as shown on the Dr Ted Naiman video their insulin levels are through the roof all day whatever.
Some other videos I watched said fasting insulin levels can be around 5-7 times of that of a healthy person this definitely was one of my own issues which meant I couldn't switch between fuel sources,i.e insulin was always too high so burning glucose for fuel not fat when a healthy person may be able to switch between within 12 hours.
Alot of people forget/don't know that proteins produce insulin spikes similar to sugars which come with a large storing hormonal response which is the storing one (insulin) and not the healing fat loss one (human growth hormone) which can only be produced when living glycogen is low, insulin is very low and glucose receptors aren't clogged (which is the only way insulin levels can drop in the first place).

Throughout this thread, my posts have NEVER said you cannot reverse PRE-DIABETICS, possibly SOME diabetics, and todays report and news, clearly states RECENTLY DIAGNOSED diabetes COULD be reversed in SOME PEOPLE.

You are SO tied up with your own 'stuff' and conspiracy acquired 'nonsense' that you can't be bothered to read what anyone opposing nearly everything you write, when they do, you get their posts removed.

So just to reiterate, ALL I've ever said on here, which I'm still saying is TAKE PROPER MEDICAL ADVICE and don't listen to you or people who are hooked on an idea that isn't ratified by anyone who didn't come up with it. That full-blown diabetes isn't reversible, and it isn't.

All the stuff that you and Denzil have pontificated about might well be helpful to SOME people, but I will still maintain, you don't know who and they need to see experts. And that most of them will be PRE-diabetic and not fully established.

Today's news is a trial of a slimfast type diet to lose weight and the weight loss will help. Once again it is primarily for pre and new T2 diabetics.

Nothing I've said has been wrong. You are no more right than before. All the evangelical twaddle you've put on here is still just that.

Now go ahead, report the post (again). I'll just repost it.

No need to worry about those sort of carbs dan they don't produce the hormonal reaction that promotes growth and very difficult to overeat especially if you eat in a time restricted window.
Also Beans (especially),pulses, legumes, peas etc. have an effect on Glucose called 'The second meal effect' which slows down subsequent glucose spikes as time goes on as your gut bacteria improves through regular feeding of bean like products it is more effective.
Those curries look like good ideas to me the link below explains better than I can.
