I don't remember the wedding of Zara Phillips being on this sort of scale though her relationship to the Queen is the same as Princess Wotsername. Why the difference ?

Actually, I was wrong. It's worse than I thought.

Zara and Peter’s mother is Princess Anne, who is the Queen’s daughter and as the children of the monarch’s daughter, they do not hold a royal title.

All of their cousins are children of the monarch’s sons – Charles, Edward and Andrew – so they do get the royal titles.

This all seems very archaic and sexist, but that is the way of things.

Comes behind HRH Stephen Fry in the pecking order.
The groom is described on Wiki as the Brand Ambassador (Crazy) for ******** tequila and a socialite. Two jobs that sound as though they may overlap.
He's also a distant cousin of the bride so nothing new there.

Yes Wetherspoons are OK in my book, I go quite often to the one in Brixton, The Beehive, for a pint when I'm doing a bit of shopping in the market there. It's earthy and real, service is always very good and it's reasonably priced compared to other local pubs.

As far as the wedding goes I didn't even know it was on today nor could I possible care less about it, all I do know is that the tax payers were sent the bill for security which I read somewhere was £2,000,000.

All these people complain about the Royal Family but what they don't realise is that the Queen has the good grace to allow them to live and own property on what is her land.

I for one would like to say thank you, Ma'am.

Cost of policing is a red herring. This sort of thing generates millions more in tourism etc.

Both Meghan and Kate are worth zillions to the fashion industry as women, (and those identifying as women..) copy what they wear.

I should think many females, males an inbetweeners will copy Gene and the bridesmaids too.

The royals are a brand.

when the French got rid of their royals, what happened to their tourism industry...Paris one of the most visited cities in the world. They don't come to see the queen because she's never there to give a wave, Buckingham Palace itself wouldn't disappear.
Report Injera October 12, 2018 5:07 PM BST
Paris is a sh*t hole. Sorry but that's my review of the place.

Agree they get loads of tourists but having a living royal family certainly helps us.

When Prince William married Kate Middleton in April 2011, the UK’s Association of Leading Visitor Attractions claimed it:

Saw an additional 600,000 people come to London for the weekend, 60% from UK, 40% from overseas, spending £107m … The value to ‘brand Britain’ due to global media coverage was approximately £1 billion.

VisitBritain reported that, globally, more than two billion people watched the wedding ceremony, with its content aired by key broadcasters internationally.

It wasn’t just visitors to London that increased – the Office for National Statistics reported that during April 2011, an extra 350,000 visitors travelled to the UK compared to 2010. Tourism also flourished on the island of Anglesey in Wales, where the royal couple lived after the wedding.

Report lfc1971 October 13, 2018 9:47 AM BST
Because it is necessary and doesn’t cost the country anything
Unlike the costs caused and the billion spent after importing murderers and alien and anti British elements into Britain , the billions spent on security and of course lives lost and horrific injuries

What I often find amusing is the type of royalist supporter who happens also to take a firm opinion on the EU being one with unelected personnel, seem to convieniently forget they could be talking about the very monarchy they are in support of.

Whereas the EU was established to minimise the likelihood of continued European wars (the greatest area of war zones on the planet) largely contributed to by imperialist power struggles within an extended family.....who ofc then rewarded supporters with egregious wealth for doing little other than pointing to the area which they expected the 'subjects' to die fighting.
