Then they'll go and vote for Corbyn, whose policies would make them even worse off by bringing more workers from abroad to put downwards pressure on wages and conditions.
Watching them cheering themselves into the gutter at the Labour Party conference was good, waving their Palestinian flags.
Unbelievable scenes.

how do you get lower wages if your on minimum wage its set by the government, that's what the right don't get they use their own insecurities pretending their worried about those at the bottom, when those at the bottom think they cant be much worse off anyway so are prepared to gamble and have a go with someone else

What they don't seem to realise is that they may only be on £7.50 an hour now but if they keep their noses to the grindstone they could be on a six-figure salary in 20 years' time.
In the meantime, they should know their place!

it should always be about working conditions and not pay ...if pay goes up then staff numbers could get cut , then you could be working 20 % more for 10 % greater pay ...not good

when the poor are down, kick them hard, great thread nick. Living in London on £7.5 is peanuts and barely covers rent and other expenses, many already work their fingers to the bone and it's not as easy as just getting another job with so many other unskilled workers applying for them at the same time. These compaines are making hundreds of millions in profits and are ripping off their workers already stealing their tips so what's wrong with asking for a fair pay. I think you've been brainwashed on here by the far right after reading so many of their nonsense post over the years.
Disappointing.

SH - I refer you to my post from yesterday at 15:25
Furthermore, what they fail to mention is that they get one free meal per shift.
What about the senior managers who work away from the outlets? If that was me, I'd be banging on my boss's door wanting Luncheon Vouchers or pay in lieu.

At the organisation I worked for around 1987, managers at a certain level would get a company car. At the next level up, they were entitled to a fully expensed car. ie all petrol paid for - business and personal.
This was before the days of itemised till and credit card receipts so they'd put £5 of petrol in the car at the pump and then get £30 of groceries in the shop.

This was against the rules, btw. That makes it fraud.
Everyone knew it was going on but a blind eye was turned.
Tbh though, more junior staff would fiddle their expenses and overtime. But they would if they knew that people further up the chain were taking the pi$$.

The situation that has developed would have been impossible years ago. The unions and the Labour party would have seen to that.
Any party that supports free movement of labour, when wages here are higher than abroad is an anti home grown worker party. And Labour have supported free movement f Labour for years.
Anyone who can't see that must have mud in their eyes.

Dr C, you have a point but work in the catering industry has always been notorious for low pay.
Yes, people in the building trade have seen their wages come down but I keep hearing that there's still an acute shortage of workers in this industry.

Wages have come down in the building industry, and the reason given is always competition from cheap foreign labour.
Demand is met by importing workers, so it's no wonder there's a shortage of home grown talent when we hardly train people ourselves, let alone find them continuation of work when they are trained. But the money alone now is insufficient to justify the heavy work involved.
Listened to a phone in on Nick Ferrari this week, ex building workers now bus drivers citing the drop in wages as the reason for leaving the industry.

If the building industry couldn't meet demand by importing workers, the training levels of tradesmen in building would increase dramatically and the wages would do the same.
