I don't mean food intolerance, I mean the real thing where a reaction can be life threatening. Would you trust a stranger to prepare your food if you were in that position? Or trust the list of contents on a label?
Baguettes with sesame seeds usually have them included for decoration and can be clearly seen. If they're not there for decoration and they're not included in the ingredients then what would be the point of putting them in?
In my view the case is always ''buyer beware.''
All this is likely to lead to is for food producers to print a disclaimer on the label of foods. Anything further would put too much responsibility on food manufacturers.
Wouldn't it be easier for allergy sufferers to limit their eating to stuff they know is 100% safe, like fruit and food they have prepared themselves?
Which anyone with any sense would do anyway.
Legislation would put everyone else to an enormous amount of expense and trouble, with serious litigation resulting from mistakes or accidents.
If I had I severe, potentially life threatening allergy to any thing that might possibly be in food in shops I wouldn't entertain the thought of even buying it. Always amazes me that people take the chance.

It seems irresponsible with a complaint like that to consume food prepared by someone else when you're stuck on a plane.

My experience with anaphylaxis is that after the first time (obviously) you can feel it on your tongue straight away and spit as much as you can out. Your mouth starts to blister almost immediately. It's pretty hard not to make a mistake now and again FWIW. Foods are labelled better now than they were a few years ago too - allergens are in bold on the packaging.

I have quite a severe fish and nut allergy, I believe very rare for someone my age because about 50 years ago when I was in primary school the teachers used to force feed me fish even though I complained that it 'stung my throat'.
I never even sussed it was an allergy until I was in my teens and the reaction I got from people around me was that it was all in my head! ie. I had convinced myself I was allergic, therefore that in itself created the symptoms.

Doctors take that view as well, once they've run all their tests and nothing shows up, they start trying to psychoanalyse the patient as if their feeling lousy all the time is simply in their mind.
Woe betide anyone who is less than articulate when they get to this stage because the doctor will simply fob them off.
