About a month ago I bought two guitars for my grandchildren before realising (after delivery) that one of children was left-handed. I arranged a return and re-ordered a left-handed guitar and in turn Amazon arranged a collection (via Hermes who also delivered the items), which was duly collected the very next day; it should be noted that I hadn't opened the parcel to check it and returned it sealed as it arrived. The following day I received a refund (24/08/18). All's well that ends well... or so I thought.
Today I received the following email:

I contacted Amazon who confirmed that they had sent the email but it was a mistake to do so (in other words it was genuine); they apologised and said they would not be taking it any further and to ignore the email, but how can you ignore an email that blatantly accuses you of theft!? - They have since sent another email confirming they will be looking into it their end but will take no further action with me, together with another apology.
Did I actually receive a box of bottles and paper? I have no way of knowing because I didn't open it, but having ordered two of them I think I would have felt if they were different. I've since checked the other guitar and it as ordered so what happened?
Someone, somewhere has managed to walk off with a new guitar, that I am now accused of. Not happy!
You are quite consistent with your little digs Delta, I'll give you that. FYI my daughter (and granddaughter) have just moved in with my daughter's boyfriend, who also has a young child that I've only met the once. Not wanting to buy one without the other I bought two before checking what initially wasn't obvious to me. I trust this now resolves any concerns you may have.

Some people just play them upside down. E.g. Hendrix. (Not sure how many people were aware of that, look closely at the photos).
In my experience amazon returns have been fine, easier than other companies. Though one hermes guy was a bit useless. He turned up then spent ages in the back of the van looking for the item to "deliver" with me outside looking in with a raised eyebrow wondering wtf he was up to before he twigged and realised it was an item to pickup! :)
Surely a guitar came in a distinctive shaped box?

I wonder if this was just someone messing about in the office typing up an e-mail that was not meant to be sent. There used to be a group in the mid 70s named Orange Juice(Edwin Collins) who were originally named the Nu Sonics,(named after a cheap brand of guitar), perhaps the person who inspected your returned guitar didn't think too much of it!

They clearly know it's their fault, and consequently they also know the details as to what really occurred!
Obviously they are trying to save face by just letting it go but, at the same time, are not considering your feelings!
I would take comfort in that, whilst you are upset about it, you know the truth, and that at there end someone will have been held accountable and dismissed!

They have since sent another email confirming they will be looking into it their end but will take no further action with me, together with another apology.
They've accepted that you have done no wrong and apologised again, suppose you could ask for a credit/vouchers whatever for the original defamation as a gesture of goodwill.

I agree with some of you here. Letting it drop isn't the right way to go, although I don't think I'll be going to the papers. I might just drop them another email asking them to explain themselves and give me a full update on why I received it in the first place.

Give the huge volumes they turn over the odd mistake is probably to be expected. Touch wood not had one.
I like Amazong but my BIG gripe with them is that con of accidentally taking on amazon prime that many many many MANY people fall for as they really don't make it clear you are signing up, and many don't notice until a month later when the trial ends and they get debited.
They could make it far clearer but chose not to and imho it's really sneaky and a bad way to treat customers.

If the amount involved wasn't that big, you should have accepted your mistake and returned the money for the guiter. Then ordered something twice as expensive from the same store and told them the packet contained paper and juice packs, so you would need a refund. Then you could have sold that product on eBay for a profit.
This is assuming they'd accept their mistake despite being innocent, just like you.

Apologies for my bad english. Basically you make another order and accuse them of the same thing that they accused you of. If your accusation is successful, you have more money than they have.

JC...I fully agree as I fell for the same thing....
First I knew was when I was debited for the fee!
In fairness, they sent the money straight back, as I hadn't used it....

Its easy to fall for the prime trap. Because even when you realize what you are signing, they ask the same thing in a completely different way in the next step. Simply a trap.

Amazon prime issue could be solved in two simple steps. 1 is after you sign up show a screen saying "congratulations you have no signed up for amazon prime.". Step 2 is an email with a CLEAR subject with the same, not put in with their order confirmation spam that nobody reads.
But they don't, they just slide it past you. It's my one big gripe with the company and it really annoys me.

I inadvertently signed up for Prime and was quite p1ssed off at the time because I don't know how it happened, however; it did update me with an email confirming I had signed up and so I decided to trial it anyway and eventually agreed to continue. It isn't difficult to cancel either so other than being a little underhanded, no real harm was done.
