The golden rule is to do a comparison check every year and switch to the cheapest. Don't think they won't rip you off if you stay with them because they're not in business to work for nothing.

Or switch to one of the cheapest, some of the reviews for the cheapest are terrible. While others haven't been going long enough to show their colours.

The thing is with People's Energy is they're trying to make a difference.
On my comparison quotes there were 2 companies slightly cheaper than what People's Energy were quoting - by approx £30 a year (both new starters).
I reckoned it was worth just over 50p a week to put my trust in a company who's aim is to take away the unfairness and greed of the corporates and try to make energy fair for all.
There's no risk as there's no contract, therefore no prohibitive exit fees, and if they go bust, gas and electric supply is guaranteed by Ofgem until you find a new supplier.
What have you got to lose by giving a new company with the right intentions a go? In my opinion, absolutely nothing.
PEOPLE'S ENERGY VISION:
"We want to put 1 million people in the UK in charge of their own energy – looking after people and the planet before profit.
We want to bring back trust in the energy market, by putting our actions and money where our mouth is. All corporates talk about ‘great customer service’. Many of these statements are not worth the paper they are written on. We don’t want to talk about it. We have designed the business to demonstrate in every action we take that you, the customer, matters. That what matters to you matters to us.
That’s why we want to offer you ownership of your own energy and give you back the money we make. Profits should go to you. Not to Fat Cats, not to Pension Funds – to you! It is also why there will be no hiding behind mistakes. No corporate greed hidden behind spin and pretense.
The planet’s survival is vital for the survival of us and the next generation. We want to help look after it, not exploit it. Hence why 100% of our electricity comes from renewable sources.
Our commitment is to create a company you want to stay with long term because you trust us to do what is right for you and the planet."

I'm paying £79.44 per month for dual-fuel on direct debit, calculated on my usage of gas and electric from August '17 to August '18, which was an exceptionally high usage year for me with it being so cold for so long and me being ill for several months in the coldest months (January to April, which led me to never turning the gas central heating off even once in all that time.
First Utility were quoting me £115 per month on the same usage for this upcoming year, and that came with a £60 cancellation fee if I changed to another provider during the contract.
People's Energy charge nothing if you leave them.
