The latest forum competition, this time it’s for the 2018 US (Tennis) OPEN: PLEASE ENTER ON THIS THREAD
There isn’t much lead time, because the players and full draws/seeds/qualifiers haven’t known until now.
I’m awaiting any news of a prize fund, if there is one I’ll tell you on this thread.
This is how it works:
There are 12 sections You have to pick 1 player, Score, round, or number (depending on which section) for each one. The scores for each selection are listed below.
Just put the letters A to L with your choice for each - preferably going downwards, followed by a tie-break answer.
In the event of ties, a tiebreak will come into effect so there should be an absolute winner (and 2nd & 3rd).
The Sections: and some details/clues/history
A. What round will Novak Djokovic reach – or Will he win?
In his 12 appearances at the US Open, he’s won twice, been losing finalist 5 times, losing semi finalist 3 times and twice lost in R3.
Choose from R1, R2, R3, R4, QF, SF, F, Win.
2 points for being right.
B. How many of the top 16 Mens seeds will make the last 16?
Choose from 0 to 16
4 points for being spot on, 2 points if 1 out, 1 point if 2 out.
C. How many of the top 16 Womens seeds will make the last 16?
Choose from 0 to 16
4 points for being spot on, 2 points if 1 out, 1 point if 2 out.
D. What will the score be in the 1st round match between STAN WAWRINKA and GRIGOR DIMITROV. Put WAWRINKA’S score 1st
So choose a score from 3-0, 3-1, 3-2, 2-3, 1-3, 0-3
3 points if correct, 1 point if getting the right winner, wrong score.
E. Will previous winners win the Tournaments (Men’s singles, Womens singles, Both or Neither
Previous winners taking part are: Men: Wawrinka, Djokovic, Cilic, Federer, Del Potro, Murray & Nadal. And Women: Stephens, Kerber, Kuznetsova, Stosur, Sharapova, Williams (S) and Williams (V)

2 points if correct
F. How many Games will be played in the Womens final – in total?
Choose from: 12 to 39 The last 5 finals have provided 15, 29, 21, 18, 32. games
4 points if correct, 2 points if wrong by 1 and 1 point if wrong by 2
G. How many SPANISH MEN will get to the last 8 of the singles:
There are 10 Spanish players in the main draw currently, plus at least 2 qualifiers . They are: Bautista-Agut, Cabelles-Baena, Carreno-Busta, Ferrer, Garcia-Lopez, Munar, Nadal, Ramos-Vinolas, Verdasco... Granollers and Robredo are the 2 qualifiers, If I’ve missed any, they won’t count Let’s also try not to get too confused by the plethora of double-barrelled names in use,
Unless I’m mistaken - which is quite possible – 2 of them are seeded (top 16). There are a few all Spanish affairs in the 1st round, and depending on where in the draw the qualifiers end up, there could be as many as 6 Spanish men in the last 8 (but don’t hold me to that, it’s not easy to work out).

H. How many of the 32 Mens seeds will be Knocked out in the 1st round
Choose from: choose from 0 - 32
4 points to correct predictions, 2 if out by 1, 1 point if out by 2.
I. How many of the 32 Womens seeds will be Knocked out in the 1st round
Choose from: choose from 0 - 32
4 points to correct predictions, 2 if out by 1, 1 point if out by 2.
J. How many of the 8 players whose surname begins with an M will still be in the womens singles in Round 3?
This is the full list, I don’t think there are any qualifiers beginning with a M who can still be added: but, IF I HAVE MISSED ANY OUT OR ANY FURTHER PLAYERS WHOSE NAMES BEGIN WITH AN ‘M’ ARE ACTUALLY TAKING PART THEY WILL COUNT

1 matches in Round 1 is an ‘all B’ affair, if successful that far, there would be 2 more in round 2

K. Which of these 10 players will progress furthest in the mens singles? Thiem, Goffin, Isner, Carreno-Busta, Schwartzman, Fognini, Tsitsipas, Edmund, Pouille, Sock – (seeds 9-18)
3 points for being right.
L. Which of these 10 players will progress furthest in the womens singles? Svitolina, Pliskova, Goerges, Ostapenko, Kasatkina, Muguruza, Bertens, Keys, Mertens, V. Williams(seeds 7-16)
3 points for being right
TIEBREAK :
How many Aces will there be in the Mens final? Last year there were 11. (’ve given up looking for the 2016 number)
Other stuff
E&OE – Any ties in any sections, points shared; (eg, if the score is 2 points for 3rd, 1 point for 4th, and there's a tie for 3rd, both will score 1.5)
If I’ve made any glaring errors, please let me know, and if they can be rectified or sorted, I’ll do my best to sort it.
The organiser's (that's me) decision is final. I'll try to update scores and standings at the end of each Section’s completion.
