Not being a Landaner, and wanting not much to do with Landan, but what's the big deal with these places?

How much do they charge, for something you could make at home, and why the eel juice?
Isn't that a bit like putting gravy on fish and chips?

Or custard on kippers!

As a Londoner, no. I don't eat pie and mash and surely no-one actually likes jellied eels.

Though isn't Wigan supposed to be pie central? Do our northern chums have pie and mash shops?
Report saddo August 19, 2018 1:51 PM BST
In Leeds there is Pieminister. Not a pie fan but I was persuaded to go with a little reluctance. They are the best pies I have ever bought and I have returned a few times.

Stewed eels Pie mash and Liquer Diffo gear

They used to have a Pie n mash counter and White City dog track ,prob associated with the Cookes Shop that was  by the Bush

market ..

Used to go Harringtons then Cab to dogs Years back Slippy ....Think they had another on Wandsworth Bridge road I visited a

few times ,that closed  ,would imagine the main reasons for Closures would be Rocketing  Rent prices  and Diversity  ,Saying

that My old Manor Tooting  was Hardly  full of Landoners Happy and that is still going ..

I used to always eat jellied eels Ramruma when the bloke used to come around with his seafood tray in the local pubs back in the day, plenty of pepper and vinegar. Since that stopped I haven't sought them out and the supermarket deli counters don't seem to stock them.

Cookes in Hoxton use to be nice, don't know if its still there, the one in Maldon is good as is the one in Herne Bay Kent, i love it, the liquor is lovely, hot eels and mash is also very nice and how can you NOT LIKE JELLIED EELS ?. Eels are good to eat, its a shame you can't get Conger Eel anymore, that fish is lovely, one bone down the middle and sweet meat all around it, no other bones.Love

There was a pie n mash shop near my school.
Lediards, I just tried looking at it.
It's gone, like everything else in Stratford.
Not a single shop survives, nor the shopping centre, nor the school, nor many of the streets.

They won't be missed... along with the Pie and mash.

It was bleedin' horrible.

A typically not very nice post.

followed by another post on the same old message as invades every thread on this forum, because some of you cant think about anything else.
This WAS a thread about Pie and mash, not immigration.

FWIW,
Stratford was never a good area.
It was a tip, rough as anywhere else in east London which in the main, has always been a dump.

Not wishing to join in the xenophobic tirade that accompanies most threads on here, but it was largely immigrant populated 50 years ago.

The old population died off or moved out (who can blame them) and no-one, until the advent of the Olympics and Westfield, etc, wanted to move in.

Report northanlite August 20, 2018 2:52 AM BST
the deep fried mars bar is a bit of a  myth. it does happen but mainly tourists.
the story seems to be that is started in a wee town called Stonehaven near Aberdeen for a joke
but a few other places claim it.
I've tried a fried chocolate bar once, it was weird because for some reason it seems super sweet
when heated & is quite revolting.
it isn't something anyone does regularly, i hope.
