Those are individual choices , sharia law is about forcing that alien culture onto others

ie not only will they choose not to drink alcohol , they will force you not to either
That’s the difference

Only in your fevered imagination. This is simply about what a woman is choosing to wear and what that has to do with an old man who's never met her.

It is what it represents , when someone chooses to dress in a way , that because of the nature of the world we live in gas very negative associations then of course people have the right to be concerned

It only represents that to people who want to get offended by everything and everyone who has a darker skin colour than them.

Why should my choice of perfectly innocent clothing be determined by an idiot who attaches his own meaning to it?

There is no point saying why be concerned , well people are concerned for very good reasons

They fear their own democratic and liberal culture being overtaken by a repressive and alien culture
That is a simple and easy thing to understand

Because that is the very nature of that culture and those countries that practice that culture , look around

PP, you do rather engineer a question. When you refer to ‘an idiot’ there are millions who rather agree with him, whilst not professing to be of genius status we are not all idiots.

By wearing the hijab it is a very visible sign of the sort of country that they and others would wish to live in
Given the chance to vote for such a country that is what they would vote for and hope to bring about
It is totally at odds with the sort of country I would wish to live in , why would any rational person then think it is a good thing ?
I don’t know

You see it is what it represents , that is there for everyone to see

What someone wears is a mattter of personal choice , yes
But also what they wear can be a warning that your personal choice and  freedoms will be at risk
Should what that clothing represent get the chance to be in power
That is why it is not simply a matter of innocent clothing , what people choose to wear can be a warning also

Sorry racing, but when you read lfc's ramblings before and after it throws my idiot jibe into relief.

"It shows what sort of country they wish to live in"

Does it indeed?

I'd rather say that people who don't fully understand people's reasons for choosing their clothing yet being worried or offended all the same shows what kind of country they want it to be. A country where anyone considered an other is given a lower status.

I don’t care about understanding their reasons for wearing what they do
I understand that the religion it represents is a danger to a free and liberal way of life

Because it can be traumatic to someone who has been robbed at gunpoint half a dozen times by people wearing face coverings to suddenly be confronted in a public face by someone whose face is concealed . It's called a trigger and can be extremely distressing to the victim Sad

But that's a nonsense argument reynard.

Should we ban all dark hats? All scarves?

Should we ban all cars because someone knocked down is triggered when seeing one being driven at speed?

Can't speak for everyone but I was held up about 5 times in my bookie years and I think I can distinguish between someone masked up wanting to do something iffy and a woman going to the shops.

The Burka is generally (I think) seen as a form of clothing intended to discourage communication and integration.

Pineapple it’s like this , you can’t tell how a person wants to live and in what sort of a country they want to live in by the fact that they might wear a hat or a scarf
You can if they wear the hijab
That is a warning

There’s a word I really baulk at that gets used in the news and that is ‘community’. The black community, the Asian community, the Pakistani community, the lgbt community. Self imposed segregation is what it is. Treat everyone as an individual on their merit. Ffs.

If they stop wearing the hijab and wear a hat and scarf that’s fine
Don’t confuse one with the other

Again lfc, it's not your place to tell a random stranger what they can and cannot wear. If you attach meaning to their clothes then that's you doing that, not them. If you want to engage with them, maybe ask and find out then that's a different story but right now you're just assuming a whole lot.

pineapple I have no intention of telling anyone anything
I am sure they will have their reasons for dressing like that , and I have my reasons to be wary if they do
Anything else us too much trouble , and I don’t see why I should go to any trouble because of the stupid actions of others

it’s also the ones that we can’t send back ( even if only in theory who don’t get sent back anyway of course )
They are perhaps a bigger problem , so that’s another good reason to have voted Brexit to stop freedom of movement
It’s not just a problem if they leave ( in theory ) it’s a problem if they stay

PP - Then you know all about PTSD .
I'm not suggesting a ban on hats , scarves etc . They have a function in certain weather conditions . Islamic face masks have no bona fide function .
Wear what you like in private but exercise consideration for others in public places .

A poor attempt by the MSM to divert attention away from yet another attack on our seat of power , no doubt the work of an imported loony .
Of course , if dear old Boris hadn't gone into a frenzied verbal rant and attacked some anonymous Islam Bin Liner this latest terrorist attack would never have occurred .....
