Such a shame we have this tendency to knock our best men, on any objective measure Murray has been one of the top British sportsmen of the 21st century, and it's arguable he has been the best given the truly global nature of his chosen sport and his career coinciding with those of RF, RN and ND.
My own admiration of Murray stems of course from the sublime brilliance and artistry of his game, but more - for me at least - from his Stakhanovite work ethic and hunger for self-improvement. He always had the skills to compete at the top level, but his acquisition of the fitness and stamina required when he is not in any way a natural athlete has stood out. |

^ I agree with a lot of that but not sure about not being "a natural athlete" as he was very good at most
sports he tried as a kid. You can't teach hand eye coordination and you can improve speed and agility but it has to be there to start with. |

I meant bodily, rather than hand-eye wise. He does not have the body of a natural athlete, he has had to hone it to the nth degree.

He has certainly worked hard on conditioning but he was a bit unusual in that he didn't stop growing until 19 or 20.
I'm sure I read that he was 6ft 1" at 18 and 6ft 3" sometime after his 19th birthday so he was a late developer. They could not get him doing serious gym work until he had finally stopped growing whereas someone like Nadal was pretty much a grown adult by 17. If you see him at 14 you would would never guess he would end up that height. He was still a very good junior though. |

Murray at his peak was one of the top 10 sportsmen on the planet. Unfortunately for him 3 of the top 5 were tennis players.
