I don't know why the general trend is so appallingly down ...surely its still the very best place to back and certainly to lay..maybe too many layers have gone bust..some markets that would have been chocker a few years ago are desperate in liquidity now.
I for one have sworn never to comeback here after backing to trade out ... and being frozen out by the collapsing of the system .. but is that the real reason?? I come back tail between my legs because how I like to bet ...there isn't a viable alternative

All businesses get obsessed with takeovers, but PP made the best decision ever. That with good management could do them.
They took over a product that was stagnating, betfair had a chance to take over the tote and with their algorithms, it could had revolutionised uk betting. still massive money to be made.
Like every gigg economy companies they dont want more employees, they want a cash return.
I still reckon the Betfair idea could have little employees and make money.

if betfair are telling the truth ,when you visa card reaches its expiry date you will have two choices,show them your bank account or leave betfair.
this it wrong ,and if everyone feels the same way as i do they will not comply with this rule,it is an invasion of privacy and breaks the data protection act.
but i guess they dont care if i leave,but they just might if everyone leaves and that could be a strong possibility ,but this will not be noticed because everyone has a different expiry date on their visa card and it will be a drip drip method of customers leaving.

i have nothing to hide,i offered a letter from my bank to prove that my replacement card was the only card connected to my one and only bank account but betfair refused this and insist on a photo shot of it.My bank says its not best practice to give anyone this information.even though over the 15 years with betfair i replaced my card 4 times and had no problems ,i dont know why they want a photo but they have informed me that there will be no exceptions to this new rule and everyone will have to tell them their entire business.

i have had that problem with an expired card they say its because of money laundering and the net deposits.i created a bit of a stink and because the net deposit between deposits and withdrawals was pretty small the guy on the phone just changed it there and then but only after i made some fuss and said well just close my account

well,in my case it will be betfair that closes my account ,becaause as the expiry date arrives it will be them that stop it,i rang 3 or 4 times to register my replacement card,and one member of staff hung up on me,the second member told me she would me in the afternoon and the third member told me like it or lump it that that was the new rule and no letter from my bank will suit them,they want to see a photo my account .and its the same account that they insisted on me opening in 2003 ,and was faxed to them at the time .(thats the way it was done in those days,so they really have a photo of it.

There are signs betfair are recognising the exchange is in trouble by coming up with incentives aimed at the exchange exclusively, which I can't recall ever seeing before.
The first one was the money back if a back bet goes odds on and loses (only for very small money and has limited impact)
The second one could be more significant however.
Betfair have targeted 50 customers, all HRPC payers and given them allowances against the amount of PC due each winning week.
We all know that betfair implemented the 'winners tax' on the argument that losers need encouraging to continue on the exchange through advertising etc, for winners to win from. Well as emerging markets stall and the lifecycle of the exchange becomes mature, perhaps finding these losers is becoming increasingly difficult.
This could be why bf are now targeting layers who put up more than 50% of liability to 'back' bets total.
This seems acknowledgment that we layers are thinning out.
I have no problem risking liabilities, I was never a gambler before the exchanges so 'backing' is no more natural to me than laying.

Brassy, if you are playing with small stakes for a bit of fun, then there is no need to deposit or withdraw any funds. Just make sure you have a good account balance when your card expires and don't register another, you can churn what you have in your account assuming you don't make steady losses. Would BF object to that?

the problem with the new visa cards is that all banks are updating their cards to a new contactless card(a card that allows you the purchase anything up to 30 quid without using a pin number)to do this and enhance security all replacements visa cards are issued with a new set of numbers.When the holder of the card uses it for the first time on any bill or purchase the card becomes activated .Once the card is activated the banks allow 30 days of use on the old card before the old card is withdrawn from circulation by the banks.

one thing i am not sure of is that the bank i use is a member of the royal bank of Scotland group,in other words a UK bank.It is possible that it may only be UK bank customers that are hampered by registration on betfair (but i am not sure).it may have something to do with brexit as the banks position themselves for a no deal situation ,but the story will continue ,and the days are running out for betfair and their customers.

How recently was this change, because I had to renew a card only a couple of months ago and was a piece of p1 ss

i dont know,all i know is that betfair have refused to register my replacement card for the one and only bank account that i have,its the same account that i have used for the 15 years i have been on betfair.But what annoys me most is that betfair will not accept a letter from the bank stating that the card i wish to regester is a replacement card for the said bank account.

That isn't correct. I have had all my cards upgraded to contactless and none of the numbers have changed.

At least one major high street bank updates the card number with each new card
I'm not sure the issue is contactless though because my current card is contactless and I had no problem registering it with BF two years ago. As it happens that card is expiring at the end of this month so will be interesting to see what hoops I have to jump through

theoretically if you had a photo/scan of the front of the card and a photo/scan of the top of the bank statement you would have the account number on both plus the other details.
when i was having trouble they wanted a photo shot showing at least one betfair transaction on the account statement.i do not know if all cards are the same now but every debit card i get the long number is always different i thought it was only the start and expiry numbers that changed but they must have changed the terms now.i am sure i was told if the net depoists was in minus more deposits than withdrawals thats when they need a photo of the account.it explains this i think in the help questions about net deposits

Yeah unfortunately the purple place have a KYC now (in terms of my experience anyhow). Though oddly was allowed to join a certain owner of theirs with a red sign and access the exchange on their website with no KYC etc.

dave i had the same problem a few months back when my debit card expired i tried to change the old one for the new one.long number had changed on new card.i could not delete old card so i phoned them up and was told because there was more deposits than withdrawals on the card making a minus net profit.they required photo of my account showing a betfair transaction on the account the new card was registered to. i kicked off a little and said just close the account then as its the same account i have used on here since i joined only renewing a new card because of expiry of old card.after some back and fourth and because the minus net deposit was only minimal he eventually did it for me.so thats what happened to me

well nellie all my cards have changed to contactless and none of the numbers have changed. Also there would be plenty more complaining if all card numbers were changing for everyone (and also betfair would be aware and not using there standard policy).

quite a lot of firms are like that the lol gambling commission calls it "basic protection" but in reality it isn't any protection at all.

If you wanna bet just before the off the purple one is best, if you're trying to get some moneys on early then you're more likely to get matched on smarkets. Different exchanges for different needs.

dave ,what bank give you the same numbers for 8 years?
this is the message i got from the bank.=Please note that your new card has a new 16 digit number,new, valid from expiry dates,and a new CVV security number on the reverse.
if you have existing card registered with websites you will need to update those websites with new card details'

it also says that the old debit card will still work for approximately 30 days .and half these 30 days are gone,as i say time is running out fast and betfair are still sitting on their hands and doing nothing except asking for a photo of the bank account,and as i say a letter of authenticity from the bank is not good enough for them.

I renewed my card last week - expired end of July.
The 16th digit had changed along with the cvv. Entered the details to my account, null problem.

BF's ads never mention the laying part of what they offer. So they're perceived as just another bookie. They just go on about 'better odds'. It's a tired mantra.
I think the laying is perceived as a bit naughty (and open to a lot of corruption) so has never really become mainstream in the world of the average punter.

if you get a loan the lender has a right to see your bank account as proof that you can pay back,but i dont think betfair are about to lend soon.
but surprise surprise,i can still deposit with paddy and withdraw with paddy ,now that is a story on its own.make what you want of that situation.

remember what is happening to me is going to happen to every betfair customer when their visa card expires according to the help desk staff,the four staff i spoke to told me their are no exceptions to this new rule.i have renewed my card 5 times over 15 years and had no problems but this time for some reason they will not except the replacement card ,from the same bank,same address,same account numbers ,same everything ,but the PAN(16 DIGIT NUMBER HAS CHANGED)and the CVV number has changed,and that has happened on the 5 previous times (its for security). but this time we are all getting a" no no no no no "from betfair,perhaps and i stress perhaps it may have something to do with brexit and the talk of tariff's on debit cards????????

If you done as much betting as woffling then they might actually miss you.
i checked my records and have turned over millions of pounds since i started ,so its not that ,there is no massive profits on the card either,and the biggest bets i ever recorded was single grand bets a few years back,the biggest collect was 16 grand and that's a long time ago in 16 team accum.
so its a standard gamblers account .i could understand if it was only me,but as i say ,the help desk have confirmed to me 4 times that everyone is about to get the same treatment with no exceptions,but what surprises me is that the forum is not littered with complaints about the treatment the so called" valued customers"are about to get.

its my guess that everyone is moving on to other gambling sites,and its only me that is here on my lonesome to fight the case of mistreatment being dished out by betfair.
why don't you just give them what they want and stop moaning? You know that you will eventually.

i have offered bank confirmation to them that the card is a replacement card for my only bank account and that is not good enough for them.i have given proof of my address,i have showed my bookmaker licence,i have given a utility bill,i have given my mobile number,i have given my telephone number,i have given them a copy of suitability of premises on my last bookie office,i have given a copy of my driving licence,i have given a copy of my membership of the indepentant bookmakers union,and i have given a copy of my bank statement when i started gambling with them,i also have a written contract with them ,they also have my photo,what else do they want,i did nothing wrong and am a pillar of society.
my days are numbered with betfair for some reason they will not answer too,and the sad part is that everyone is about to get the same treatment.

they haven't asked you to do that.
As was posted above, you can blackout all the transactions except betfair ones and the balance. So that would leave:
the bank name and branch - which they already have
the account number - which they already have
your name - which they already have
your address - which they already have
and the betfair payments - which they already have
So you have already given them all this info, but to keep them happy it's on a statement thus proving that it is your card linked to your bank account.
So what is your problem?

i offered a letter from the bank to them proving that the card is a replacement card and the help desk said/ no

Well they are probably correct in that they assume that you are a confused pensioner being scammed. However, you are already giving betfair access to your account when you give them your card details so the issue is somewhat redundant.
so why are they looking for something they already have,and remember everyone(no exception)will be having the same problem when their card expires according to the betfair help desk,as i say i am only a pawn in a game of chess between the banks and betfair and it looks like it will remain like this until the courts decide who has the rights and who hasent.All i hope is that someone that works for betfair sees this thread and brings it to the powers that be and save the betfair customers the annoyance that i have and still am enduring in an effort to place a bet on the the once worlds largest betting organisation.

They have what you have given them - all the bank statement does is confirm that information, which for some reason you refuse to do.

Gin I understand they have a £500 a week allowance before pc kicks in
Thanks Biscar - from info I have seen elsewhere, the trial is targeted at a certain type of player. I guess it is unlikely to be rolled out to all PC players.
