No doubt the brewers were involved somewhere along the way in the report.
Our bodies can only process alcohol in the liver because it's a poison, where some of it is turned into LDL cholesterol, that's the stuff that they give you statins for. It's the very low density LDL as well, the worst kind. It also congregates around the organs causing liver disease, and around the pancreas which diabetics will be dismayed to hear causes insulin resistance, and problems with other organs too.
But hey, some report says there's a chance it might reduce the incidence of dementia in certain people. Drink enough alcohol and you won't live long enough to find out anyway.

Here's the official advice from the NHS in 2015, which unsurprisingly flies in the face of this latest report Go teetotal to reduce dementia risks, NHS says https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/health/news/11943573/Go-teetotal-to-reduce-dementia-risks-NH
The most obvious problem with all research comparing drinkers and non-drinkers is that the latter group includes ex-alcoholics who have swapped a bottle of gin a day for total abstinence, and it is likely they damaged themselves in their drinking days. Any report that non-drinkers are more likely to have health problems should be weighed against this.
Muslims are not supposed to drink alcohol so they would be an obvious comparison group, though it would be naive not to see political sensitivities around saying muslims are more likely to be demented. And even then, there are other racial and dietary differences, less pork, more curry and so on, that might be involved.

''I've taken more out of alcohol than alcohol has taken out of me, hic''
And again,
“The gin and tonic has saved more Englishmen’s lives, and minds, than all the doctors in the Empire.”
And he should know, he beat the Bosch twice on it.

I have seen 5 or 6 friends die in their forties of drink related illnesses. I have seen other friends die of lung cancer due to smoking and I have seen 3 close friends commit suicide due to gambling.
.... and before anybody says it, the answer is NO, they were not backing my tips.
