This feels like an old geezer thread but oh well Sad Am only early 40s, so I didn't think I would have this issue just yet. Last week or so it doesn't feel like my bladder is emptying properly - feel like I need to go again not long after having a pee. Am not getting up in the middle of the night or anything, but it definitely feels annoying. I suppose I should go to the dr, but apart from doing risky surgery for people that have much worse prostate symptoms there probably isn't much they can do is there? I did read about exercise and diet helping prostate health - already do a decent amount of exercise, but I must admit the diet could do with becoming more healthy. Any chit chat thoughts? Cheers

I wouldn't worry yourself. My my pal who is a bit older than you had similar and his doctor put him on Tamsulosin. That was him sorted but everyone is different.
Report Foinavon • July 22, 2018 7:05 PM BST
See your doctor, Hank. He will give you a blood and urine test. If these are clear he will prescribe Tamsulosin as stewarty b says. The blood test is to check for prostate cancer which is unlikely for a man your age but needs doing just in case.

What is Tamsulosin?

Tamsulosin is a drug which relaxes the muscles and allows the urine to flow more easily.

Hank I had the same problem in my mid 40's , turned out that my problem was a tightness of the bladder neck muscles. My prostate was slightly enlarged but not considered a problem at that age. I was put on medication to relax the bladder neck muscles which worked very well for many years. Eventually peeing became more difficult again and I ended up having an op ( bladder neck incision ), very similar to some prostate op's in that they have to go through the prostate to get to the bladder neck. I am now putting out fires. Definitely go to the doctors if only to eliminate the more worrying possibilities.

I read about pumkin seed oil being helpful but it's wierd to come on so quickly?
(you can get it in bottles from health food shops)
Report Hank Hill • July 22, 2018 7:54 PM BST
He is doing well thanks Jayco. This problem has coincided with a drinking binge a few weeks back - I don't drink much any more - probably a coincidence. I'll get myself in to the dr next week (hopefully).

Alcohol swells your prostrate.

Saw Palmetto and Stinging Nettle Root best taken together is supposed to shrink it.

Has anyone tried that?
Report Jayco • July 22, 2018 8:14 PM BST
Glad Hank Jnr is making progress. If your car was juddering, you'd be straight to the garage, do the same with your body. My last blood test showed my LDL  cholesterol was too high and i had lower than normal haemoglobin levels.

hank this was happening to me a few years back,  it was hard work having a slash ,didnt go anywhere about it ,anyway one night i was at a boozer and had a few  pints and felt the need for a slash fook all came out ,went into the bog and stood there for about 5 mins and fook all came out ,got a cab home and felt like i was busting for a pish all the way home ,got home straight to the bog, same thing nothing coming out  starting to panic as my gut felt like a balloon and still busting for a pish ,long story short went to hospital and they put a cafeta in and about what seemed a gallon of pish came out ,you wouldnt belivee the refife i felt !  few months later i had an op on the old chap and all is fine now ,i will have to have another op 8-10 years time ,my advice go to your gp as soon as possible they can give you tablets that will help but you may need an op ,dont leave it like i did good luck

Also, just sit on the loo seat and let it flow.  Give the weaner some "pumps" when it's emptying.  Strengthens the pubic muscle Cool

Examination by finger up the rectum is a crude examination for prostate cancer. And it's such a test that puts thousands of men off visiting their doctor.

The proper test  is to obtain a PSA count via a blood sample
Report stewarty b • July 24, 2018 11:36 AM BST
The trouble with a PSA test is that it can be way off the mark and cause unnecessary worry. That said, get one if you are concerned.

A little known fact....

Take 100 men who have passed on at 90 years old or over. 80-90 per cent of them will have prostate cancer although it might never have been detected or the cause of death.

Apparently it is as prevalent as breast cancer now.

One of the side effects from Tamsulosin is that it may give you an erection that lasts 4 hours or longer. Wink
