His magic wand and “Izzy Wizzy, let’s get busy” catchphrase have cast a spell over generations with Sweep and Soo joining in the custard pie-flinging fun. And yet Sooty looks as young and fresh as ever... as he’s still only five.
“People ask what keeps him so young,” says Richard. “And I usually reply, ‘Whatever Cliff Richard is on’.
“But there have been around 5,000 Sooty ‘stunt doubles’ over the years. Lots of people claim to have ‘the original Sooty’ but that’s nonsense.”
Born plain “Teddy” in Blackpool in 1948, magician Harry Corbett bought the yellow glove puppet for 7s 6d as a holiday gift for son Matthew and later used him in his stage act.
Four years later, when he began appearing on TV, Harry’s wife Marjorie blackened the bear’s ears with soot, so he’d stand out better in black and white. The newly named Sooty got his own show in 1955.
Viewers fell in love with his innocent, slapstick humour and Harry ended every show with “Bye-bye, everybody! Bye-bye!” and a wave of Sooty’s paw.
I rarely come up with anything original but thought that rather amusing. As if you would be a bad cat dad to your pu$$ies.!!!!
from your friendly smug git he he

The BBC are in bother again, Sooty and Sweep have said that the BBC knew for years that a bloke was sticking his fingers up their ****s and did nothing about it.
