The two guilty men both received life sentences with a minimum 32-year term.

Never ceases to amaze me how these people think they'll get away with it. They must think the police are stupid!

The police ARE stupid !
Occasionally they stumble accross an easy case and everbody heaps praise on 'em .
If it wasn't for CCTV and DNA they'd probably solve less than 5% of cases .

I think around 90% of murder cases are solved but I don't know what the rate was prior to the introduction of DNA profiling.

There must be cases where the police know whodunnit but don't have sufficient evidence, be it DNA, CCTV or other, to prosecute.

There are cases where the police KNOW whodunnit but are persuaded by higher authorities not to pursue such perpetrators - FACT !

Reynard, you speak with some authority but that's a different debate.

You joined in 2002; 597 posts and how many over the last 48 hours? Where have you been for the past 15 years? GrinSilly

This. Look at all the cases they've bungled. And they have spent £14M in Portugal investigating 'a burglary gone wrong'

Of course though criminals are often even dumber as was seen in this case.

"Of course though criminals are often even dumber as was seen in this case."

Right from the start in the first few mins when they played the phoned conversation to the police - when the ex-husband found her body - he did sound unnaturally calm, and the way he was talking was like it was scripted.

ccds could have solved this won in less than an hour

decent programme all the same

very sad for victim and her family
Report i_agree_with_nick July 7, 2018 1:13 PM BST
In this casre they would have because the default position of the CCDA is to accuse the father/husband or closest family member of the victim.

Besides, it's one thing to solve a case; another to have sufficient evidence to prosecute.
Report Reynard July 7, 2018 1:17 PM BST
"They" can prosecute with little or no real evidence . "They" also suppress 'evidence' that would absolve a defendant if they are determined to get a result !
