Interesting, I was thinking until recently that Tommy was mid 70s but that's when the FILM was made. So Tommy is actually a 60s album (though it sounds imho 70s) and they were recording it THIS YEAR, 50 years ago. Released 69. Wonder if there will be a big anniversary thing?

Live albums don’t count , not sure they made a really good album

It's the one I listen to the most so for me it has to be Quadrophenia

Who's Next is a really good album. Starts and ends with all-time classics which half the world would recognize (Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again). Both songs still sound fresh, and Baba is just as inspiring every time you hear it. Won't Get Fooled Again sounds more relevant with each day that passes.

And there's not a track in between you'd want to skip.

WTF?

They had seven albums in the Rolling Stone Magazine top 500 albums of all time in 2003, eclipsed only by The Beatles, The Stones, Dylan and Springsteen.

A legendary band both live and in the recording studio.

1. Who's Next
2 Quadrophenia
3 Tommy

....... in my opinion .

lfc stfu - it's Dragons thread, he sets the terms of reference. As an observation, most authoritative album lists whether written or on-line, do NOT exclude live albums. Even purist stuff like Lias' "Spinning Around - A History of the Soul LP" does not exclude live albums.  Why would you???

Let me explain to those who don’t understand  , a live album may include songs recorded on 2 or 3  or 4 or 5 different albums
It may be possible that this is not the case , very very rarely
The velvet underground recorded a live album with songs , or most songs.  that had never been recorded before , it’s one of the greatest albums ever recorded , a masterpiece
However that is an exception
Don’t confuse one with the other
Report lfc1971 July 6, 2018 9:14 PM BST
Now I don’t care which @ authorative  lists “ include live albums
They shouldn’t do , unless they follow my criteria
Report mouse muldoon July 6, 2018 9:14 PM BST
Thank you for clarifying this matter.
