I don't see that naming him prejudices a trial. It is simply the law that Under 18s are not named. After a conviction he will be named if the judge decides.

The father of a six-year-old girl whose naked body was found dumped in woodland has told a court he was watching porn with his girlfriend the night she disappeared.
Alesha MacPhail was found dead near a house where she was staying with family on the Isle of Bute in Scotland last July.
A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, denies taking her from her bed, raping and murdering her and is on trial at Glasgow High Court.
Today her father Robert, 26, who split up with her mother Georgina when Alesha was just three months old, told a jury she had been staying with him at his parents's flat and he last saw her when he put her to bed with a Peppa Pig DVD and told her 'see you in the morning'. He then went to his room and watched porn with his girlfriend Toni-Louise McLachlan, and only learned Alesha was missing the next morning when his parents alerted him.
Alesha's grandfather Calum MacPhail, 49, had to compose himself in court during questioning as he spoke about the last time he saw little Alesha. It was he who alerted the family to her being missing. The tearful grandfather told the court the last time he saw the girl was when she came in and jumped on his bed the night before she was discovered. He told the court her last words to him were: 'Goodnight, grandpa.' The next morning he got up for work at around 6am but could not find Alesha in bed. He alerted the family and told the court: 'We searched under beds, in wardrobes, but there was no sign of her anywhere.'
The grandfather soon hit the streets of Bute to look for Alesha. He eventually spotted police tape at an area cordoned off. An officer was keeping guard at a stairs heading towards the island's former Kyles Hydropathic Hotel.
Mr McSporran: 'Did you assume anything?' He said: 'On seeing a paramedic running up and down stairs, I assumed they had found something...Alesha or someone else.'
Alesha's father also revealed to the jury he knew the accused and claimed he had previously sold him cannabis, telling the court he had sent him a Facebook message asking for drugs on the night in question. Mr MacPhail said the teenager was 'messaging him asking for drugs on the day she was abducted'.
He said his daughter had been enjoying a summer holiday with her grandparents on Rothesay and had attended a party in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, before returning to the island. A series of messages were then sent by the accused to Mr MacPhail at around 1.39am, which the father said he was 'not aware of' until later in the day. Mr MacPhail added the teen had never been in the house but 'might have been at the front door of the flat'. He said: 'He sent messages from his Facebook account and he tried to call me. 'There was messages from him and his sister's accounts that night.'
Asked if he received the messages while awake, sent around 1:39am on July 2 last year, Mr MacPhail replied: 'No, I wasn't aware of getting them at that time.' Mr McSporran said: 'Why would he contact you?' Mr MacPhail said: 'He wanted cannabis.' He admitted having sold cannabis to the accused's sister, but said he stopped selling drugs to the teenage boy three months earlier after intervention from the boy's mother.
Mr MacPhail later recalled the moment he realised she was missing and said he had searched the taxi rank and ferry port with his girlfriend. His mother posted a message on Facebook asking for information, while Mr McPhail and his girlfriend went out on foot. The search came to an end when they saw an ambulance near the scene.

It came after members of the jury were shown the horrific pictures of her body, with members of her family leaving the court before they were revealed. People always assume someone will have a rough time in prison when it is much more likely he'll meet people in prison that understand his thinking and his desires(if that's what led him to the crime).

There is an increasing tendency to accept pedophilia as a sexual orientation only. Its the non-consent or under-age that makes it a crime. So it would make sense that criminals don't consider it a crime in their world.

I knew someone whose brother was kept on remand in prison accused of rape, he got badly done over.
He was also innocent of the rape as well and cleared.
Unless someone is exceptionally tough it is best not to be imprisoned for any sex offence..

Woman in todays paper saying that when he was ten she had to drag him off her daughter who was also aged ten.

Children's Commisioner was unhappy at his naming, she seemed to think he could be rehabilitated.
Actually misread that. The charges weren't dropped but a Sheriff found her not guilty.

If he is appealing only against the length of his sentence, rather than the fact of it, why not get a couple of years in and hope the emotions die down a bit? Maybe in a decade or so, rehabilitation will be all the rage.

Why would they consider the potential punishment before committing a similar crime ? Do you seriously believe that the type of individual that commits the rape and murder of a child would take length of jail sentence into account ? The truth is that they don't contemplate the likelihood of being apprehended , they are driven by the desperately insane desire for gratification and to hell with the potential consequences for either the victim or themselves . I doubt very much that even reintroducing capital punishment for crimes of this nature would have any real effect on this specific crime rate .

The teenager who abducted, raped and murdered Alesha MacPhail has had his 27-year minimum sentence reduced by appeal judges. Aaron Campbell was 16 when he was sentenced to life for killing the six-year-old on the Isle of Bute. In August, his counsel, Brian McConnachie QC, told the Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh that the term was excessive in light of his age.
Three judges ruled on Tuesday his sentence should be cut by three years.
Mr McConnachie told Lady Dorrian, Lord Menzies and Lord Drummond Young at the start of the appeal: "It was clearly an appalling and heinous crime. "The outcome of this appeal will not determine when, or indeed if, the appellant is allowed release."
However, psychologist Dr Gary Macpherson concluded: "I am of the view that the capacity for change may be limited due to the nature of Aaron Campbell's personality structure and his complex risk factors. "I apologise to the court for appearing pessimistic, however, I am not confident that Aaron Campbell has the capacity or desire to change his behaviour in any meaningful way and as such the risks will remain for the foreseeable future."
After comparing a number of cases where the offender had been a young person or when the crime was of a violent nature, the judges reduced Campbell's sentence from 27 to 24 years. The ruling said: "A punishment part in excess of 20 years was plainly merited. We have concluded that a punishment part of 24 years would be appropriate to reflect the appellant's youth. "We will accordingly allow the appeal to the extent of substituting that period for the sentence imposed."
After hearing news of the ruling, Alesha's uncle, Calum-John MacPhail, posted on social media that he would speak to Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf about the decision.
Meanwhile Shadow Justice Secretary Liam Kerr said the ruling was "disgraceful".
He said: "This is one of the most vile criminals in Scotland, and he should not be enjoying having time shaved off his sentence. If anything he should be looking at an even longer stint. "Yet again Scotland's justice system has come down favourably on the side of the criminal and it will cause massive upset to the victim's family."
A Scottish government spokesperson said they would not comment on decisions about sentencing. However, they added: "A person will not be considered for parole until the punishment part of the sentence has expired."

However, psychologist Dr Gary Macpherson concluded: "I am of the view that the capacity for change may be limited due to the nature of Aaron Campbell's personality structure and his complex risk factors. "I apologise to the court for appearing pessimistic, however, I am not confident that Aaron Campbell has the capacity or desire to change his behaviour in any meaningful way and as such the risks will remain for the foreseeable future."
After comparing a number of cases where the offender had been a young person or when the crime was of a violent nature, the judges reduced Campbell's sentence from 27 to 24 years. The ruling said: "A punishment part in excess of 20 years was plainly merited. We have concluded that a punishment part of 24 years would be appropriate to reflect the appellant's youth. "We will accordingly allow the appeal to the extent of substituting that period for the sentence imposed."
After hearing news of the ruling, Alesha's uncle, Calum-John MacPhail, posted on social media that he would speak to Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf about the decision.
Meanwhile Shadow Justice Secretary Liam Kerr said the ruling was "disgraceful".
He said: "This is one of the most vile criminals in Scotland, and he should not be enjoying having time shaved off his sentence. If anything he should be looking at an even longer stint. "Yet again Scotland's justice system has come down favourably on the side of the criminal and it will cause massive upset to the victim's family."
A Scottish government spokesperson said they would not comment on decisions about sentencing. However, they added: "A person will not be considered for parole until the punishment part of the sentence has expired."

Mr Kerr hit the Nail on the Head , the sad part is the amount of Money being wasted keeping this Defective Unit for years
