Campbell, who is from Ardbeg near Rothesay, was convicted of raping and murdering Alesha at the High Court on Thursday and will be sentenced on 21 March. He abducted Alesha at knifepoint from her bedroom at her grandparents' home on the Isle of Bute in July 2018

How many red flags did Bute need ffs?  He was mutilating and killing cats.    He was fire raising.   He was taking a knife to school since First Year.    Jeez.   Why not take action sooner/earlier when someone has clear signs of psychopathy?

Shocked

Seems no one who knew him was surprised.

People may have paedophile thoughts but they are obliged not to act on them

as it damages the child. That is their obligation to society

Having watched the youtube videos its not easy to comprehend that the same kid could be so evil.
We all have probably ran into bad b@5tards somewhere in life and you know pretty quick you're dealing with bampots capable of anything but there's obviously something hidden in this kids head that makes you wonder if rehabilitation will be possible( if he's alive still to get to that stage)

Woman in todays paper saying that when he was ten she had to drag him off her daughter who was also aged ten.
Said he was punching and booting her daughter whilst screaming obscenities. Police were involved and the mother got charged although the charges were later dropped.

Children's Commisioner was unhappy at his naming, she seemed to think he could be rehabilitated.

Actually misread that. The charges weren't dropped but a Sheriff found her not guilty.

I find it incredible that the Childrens Commissioner should voice that.
His demeanour from being charged to conviction is frightening for someone so young.
Not sure what the maximum is as I believe the law as it stands means life cannot mean that in real terms.

I would be Selling Heavily at 27 ,or was it a Minimum of 27 ?

A length of rope would resolve matters in a Swift and Cheap manner .

Minimum 27, maximum whole life.

I can not disagree Nanny, he deserves the rope, and something of importance to him being removed without anaesetic!!!

If that were my daughter I would off him and suffer the consequences afterwards as would we all no doubt would.
Such an evil, wicked murder that just beggars belief. Hopefully he will get what is coming to him, such a sickening crime Cry

The judge in his summing up of the sentence said he doubted if he would ever be released.
The psychologists report quoted him as saying he struggled to contain his laughter during court proceedings and even worse that he was happy with the murder.
One horrible remorseless evil c*nt who hopefully will get what he deserves in prison.

I don't know the details of this case, how was he able to break in and out of their house and undetected?

There were emotional scenes in the public gallery at the High Court in Glasgow as more horror was heaped on Alesha's family.

They heard the schoolgirl was initially "drowsy" but as Campbell carried her out of the flat and along the shoreline she became more awake.
Alesha asked who he was and where they were going.
Campbell told her he was a friend of her father and that he was taking her home.
He even gave the child his top as she was cold.

I think the adults in the house were too far gone on drink and drugs to hear anything

Campbell, who abducted raped and murdered Alesha MacPhail, has been granted an appeal against his sentence.
Hope the appeal judges add a few more years on.

Says he's too young to be sentenced to 27 years. Still no remorse.

If he is appealing only against the length of his sentence, rather than the fact of it, why not get a couple of years in and hope the emotions die down a bit? Maybe in a decade or so, rehabilitation will be all the rage.

an increase in sentence would be very fitting; doubling it would be fine by me. The perps might think twice then about putting the parents through turmoil again

Why would they consider the potential punishment before committing a similar crime ? Do you seriously believe that the type of individual that commits the rape and murder of a child would take length of jail sentence into account ? The truth is that they don't contemplate the likelihood of being apprehended , they are driven by the desperately insane desire for gratification and to hell with the potential consequences for either the victim or themselves . I doubt very much that even reintroducing capital punishment for crimes of this nature would have any real effect on this specific crime rate .
