I've just started to watch the programme in B_M's link. I got 10 minutes in and have decided to watch it another time. It is extremely sad listening to the survivors.

I did watch Before Grenfell: A Hidden History, a couple of weeks ago, it was fascinating.

Here's the link

I'm becoming concerned that the multi-million pound inquiry is gonna establish that it is the job of the fire brigade to extinguish any fire that they find themselves presented with , it's what they're paid to do after all . Their failure to have completed this simple task re:Grenfell will deem them unfit for purpose . There already seems to be an attempt to smear the fire officers that attended as incompetent and inadequate and I fear they will be made scapegoats . Meanwhile the gentleman who occupied the flat where the fire started has been encouraged to 'disappear' and the faulty fridge has not resulted in a manufacturers re-call (A recognised fault on a car resulting in injury or death would automatically be subject to such a re-call) .
These inquiries are supposed to result in a report containing established 'facts' leading to remedial programmes but there are many cases where they are simply used to cover up a very serious case of willful negligence or worse , implicating senior political figures or high ranking public officials that would probably face serious criminal charges were the truth to be made public .
The Hillsborough inquiry which led to the Taylor report is one such example . Twenty-odd years down the line and we now know more of the truth about what happened on that day that resulted in 96 tragic deaths , the falsifying of evidence and general collusion and corruption of the police force , and finally the man widely seen as being responsible will stand trial . Whatever the outcome of the Grenfell inquiry , the truth will come out eventually but I doubt if many of those affected , or even those responsible will live to see the day . Meanwhile our brave firemen will have to take the blame .
I could never work out why there was a need for such esteemed lawyers and barristers at an inquiry when the aim was simply to establish the facts . Surely these highly trained professionals would be better served in a criminal court where there expertise could be used to manipulate the evidence and discredit witnesses ? Aaaaah , I think I understand now .................

I don't blame the firefighters, they will have a procedure to follow written by superiors in the calm light of day.
I don't blame "the tory's" as that's just a silly easy target.
I don't even blame the greens as despite the fact lefties say it was due to a "cosmetic" thing, the
thing that burned and killed everyone was insulation which is a green thing. Think about that.

The problem here is buck passing, box ticking, and not taking responsbility of architects, engineers and regulators.
If subcontractor X is told to put a panel up, and they are told it's safe, they'll do it.
And their manger has been told it's safe. So who is to blame?

It's the feckers passing off panels not fit for that use with a flick of a pen, the people not testing, the testing that
was inadequate.

It's actually VERY similar to the world financial crisis. Now I think about it, virtually identical.
Surprised nobody has pointed this out. People with an axe to grind, and idiots, try to say
everone involved in such things was a stupid or evil b&stard out for money who cares not for everyone else.
That was not and is normally not the case, it was, just like this, a few people in an office ticking things [in 2008
days bad loans, in this case "this panel is ok for this block"] off as "OK" when they weren't.
THEN decent people took that as fact and acted they though responsibly...

It's not just the military that has a chain of command or takes the word of "experts". That's the problem here.

2 v good posts..

The classic sign of cover ups/scapegoats etc is when tragedy occurs and an Enquiry follows.

Not a criminal investigation, no arrests and questioning under caution, but an Enquiry. See Hillsborough...2 Enquiries! Once you hold an Enquiry you create delays and make justice harder to ever achieve. It's a diversion away from true accountability let alone prosecutions.

'Five police officers involved in the Hillsborough disaster and subsequent investigation will not be charged over an alleged “cover-up” over the deaths of 96 Liverpool fans. They were accused of failing to investigate the cause of the disaster properly, either negligently or to deliberately to help South Yorkshire Police, and submitting a misleading or incomplete file to prosecutors.

The CPS said... the “evidential threshold for criminal prosecution is not met”. Staggering...

Duckenfield the scapegoat. The FA have got away with murder. It weas their friggin stadium that was deemed unworthy of a safety certificate.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/hillsborough-disaster-cps-liverpool-police-officers-fan-deaths-prosecutions-david-duckenfield-a8255081.html

See Iraq. Chilcott Enquiry took longer than the war itself.  No criminal prosecutions UNLESS you are a soldier paid to kill... Blair and Campbell should face trial.

Gosport Hospital Scandal: An Enquiry which said: there had been an “institutionalised practice of shortening lives” at the hospital during Dr Barton’s tenure as a clinical assistant' has resulted in no arrests.

Grenfell. What should have happened is Plod issuing warrants to take all computers, all paperwork of ALL correspondence from the Council, the Govt and the contractors. I guarantee much evidence has been shredded...

Did 80 people die or was it 261?
Report moisok July 1, 2018 10:27 PM BST
There are more dying and being badly wounded in the streets of london than killed at grenfell

do you think there will be the same amount of attention directed towards it?

Now we are blaming the fireman will they blame the cops for the stabbings.  We all know it is one specific group doing most of it, but like the fire, they are unlikely to go to the seat of it and put it out.
