I hope lessons have been learned after Gosport WM Hospital.

Never blown the whistle myself but I recall one evening when my boss and I were the only ones left in the office.

Just as I was leaving, I went into her office to discuss something. She was just getting ready to leave too and opened her desk drawer to get something.

As she did, I couldn't help noticing a lot of cash. She said, "keep that under your hat, Nick."

I said nothing. I didn't suspect her of fraud, theft or embezzlement.  I thought it was at worst, a case of not following procedure.

What annoyed me was that she told me to keep quiet. Had I been in her position, I would have just said nothing.

She wasn't a good liar.

Remember the episode of OF&H where they went to Devon salmon fishing?

Police Officer: Down for some fishing?
Del: Yeah; just tiddlers.
Grandad: Yeah, no salmon.

A bit like that.
