Glasgow's world-renowned School of Art has been gutted by another huge blaze, four years after part of the building was destroyed by fire.
Flames ripped through the celebrated Mackintosh building after it caught fire at about 23:20 on Friday.

The blaze spread to nearby buildings, including the Campus nightclub and O2 ABC music venue, which suffered "extensive damage".
There are not thought to have been any injuries.

Efforts to bring the fires under control were expected to be "prolonged", Deputy Chief Officer Iain Bushell said.

More than 150 firefighters were sent to the scene and were faced with "an extremely challenging and complex incident", he added.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service deputy assistant Peter Heath said "pockets of fire" remained, but were under control.
He said the School of Art building had been "extensively damaged" and that all floors were affected.

Extremist arsonists against the arts and crafts movement? Seems a bit far-fetched.

Whether there should be some sort of enquiry into how these fires are dealt with, as with Grenfell, is a good question imo. Do our fire brigades have the right equipment?

Wasn't it torched a few years back?

Was there a year or so before the first fire, a beautiful building and amazing interior, such a shame.

We seem to be seeing more fires than in past, you would think with technology they would be protected better.

A nightwatch man might have discovered the fire earlier but you only see them  now on cricket pitches.

I hope they are insured. there was a government bailout last time.

The place was still being renovated from the first fire.  Electrical fault, imo.

Most of the original décor was lost in the last fire.
So all that's been lost was modern replacements in the style of Macintosh.
Can't see anyone getting hit on twice here for donations.
Lots of anger and lots of questions.
Was there a sprinkler system and if no why not?

Also a suggestion that the whole building might need to be demolished.

Last week the great and the good were having lunch in the newly refurbised Mackintosh tearoom which is only 200 yards away, its
due to open soon to mark the man's 150th anniversary. Glasgow treated him very badly but now the city makes a fortune out of
his legacy.
