Women...up your game !
.
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/jun/05/forbes-top-100-no-women-mayweather

The retired boxer Floyd Mayweather has reclaimed first place from Cristiano Ronaldo in Forbes’ 2018 list of the world’s 100 highest-paid athletes – but for the first time since 2010 there was not a single female on the list.

Serena Williams, winner of 23 grand slam tennis singles titles, was the sole female representative last year but she has since largely been inactive, owing to pregnancy and giving birth to her daughter Alexis in September.

Though still substantial, her $18m (£13.4m) off-court earnings from sponsors were insufficient for her to make the top 100.

Mayweather’s significant earnings from last year’s fight with the Irishman Conor McGregor made him the world’s best paid for the fourth time in seven years, with $285m (£212.8m).

The Real Madrid forward Ronaldo ($108m/£80.6m) fell to third behind his rival Lionel Messi ($111m/£82.9m). The mixed martial artist McGregor and Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar were fourth and fifth, respectively.

LeBron James (basketball), Roger Federer (tennis), Stephen Curry (basketball), Matt Ryan (American football) and Matthew Stafford (American football) concluded the top 10, with 12th-placed Lewis Hamilton the highest-placed from the UK.

The world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua was the second highest-earning British athlete, one place in front of the golfer Rory McIlroy.

I can't believe Forbes just punished Serena for having a baby.

You think Forbes should fiddle the figures so it appears as if Ms Williams has earnt more than she has.....just because she has had a baby ?

The media making a massive deal out of it, maybe men just work longer and harder?

Ohh nooo can't have that, it must be sexism.

Farce innit.

Reckon we should also have a list of the 100 highest paid models

Couldn't Serena have been sponsored by nappy makers, or rusk firms? New agent needed imo.

Hold on. That bit at the end of the Guardian c&p in OP -- since when have Lewis Hamilton, Anthony Joshua and Rory McIlroy been athletes? Lazy work at the Guardian copying the American usage or couldn't they think of a synonym for sportsman that didn't end with "man"?

It couldn't be because men do the most dangerous sports in the world (F1 racing, boxing) and women don't.  COULD IT ?

It couldn't be because men play those multi-sex sports (tennis etc) for much longer hours than women do, COULD IT ?

It couldn't be because TV audiences for men's version of sports (like football) is vastly greater than TV audiences for the women' versions of those sports. COULD IT ?  COULD IT ?

Course not, it's all down to those nasty men and their nasty patriarchy LaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaugh

We should have women competing against men if we want equality.  Then there won't be any in the top 100,000.

Little to do with sexism. A lot to do with economics.

Women are 50% of the population. If they supported women's sport in big enough numbers, the sponsors and promoters would soon sit up and take notice.

would be interested to see a top 100 by endorsements

the success of the NBA for example means plenty making huge money on the back of Lebron, Steph Curry, Durant etc but are actual nobodies

trying to find where Ronda was in the lists at the peak of her success. few bigger PPV sellers than her in the sport regardless of what you think of her

I love Love women. Always have, always will.

Its just some feminists I don't like. The modern ones (3rd wavers or whatever you want to call them, they're not real feminists in my book) - they're a disgrace to women everywhere.

And ss for the "men" who identify as feminists LaughLaughLaugh

The events that women do well in financially and in terms of exposure are those where their events are combined with their male counterparts such as Tennis at Wimbledon and athletics/swimming and they naturally feed off the extra interest.

It's two fold.  Firstly men are much more interested in sport than women and secondly people gravitate towards the best.

Ronda Rousey is an exception because that's mainly to do with sex and men are definitely interested in that. Happy

CB, she probably could, and I'd happily let her Wink

In fact I also have a thing about physically dominant women, but only when they're sexy

that fighter bird you mentioned has zero sex appeal that I can see. She's the equivalent of Madison Keys compared with the gorgeous Sloane Stephens
