Salad Cream, one of the UK's most traditional condiments may be renamed Sandwich Cream, it has been reported.

Its maker, Heinz, says that only 14% of those who buy the sauce use it on salads, with many more preferring to use it in sandwiches.
A spokesman for Heinz told trade magazine the Grocer that the name no longer "fairly represents the product's ingredients or usage occasions."
It would be the first name change for the product since its launch in 1914.

Fans of the traditional name went on social media to express their anger.

It is discriminating against sandwiches though

Why should salad get all the fun?

Might as well get rid of the word 'cream' too.

This disgusting vinegar based product bears no resemblance to cream.

Could these murders be caused by overdosing on salad cream. No one has mentioned it, but the excuse is just as valid as having no roll models or youth clubs!

How many companies have gone down this route; take a successful product, try to improve it and end up making it worse?
That's what happens when the wrong people get put in charge.

Warren Buffett once said he always chooses companies that can be run by an idiot, because sooner or later they will.

there is only one salad cream, and its Heinz

the rest are inferior and vile tasting.

BTW, don't confuse salad cream with mayo - completely different products. Heinz also do mayo, but I can't comment on whether its better or worse than Hellmans etc
then again, I would still find it vile, can'r stand mayo myself.

give me salad cream any day. Cool

If they rename their sludge Sandwich Cream, how can you ask the waiter for some sandwich cream to put on your salad?

I always have a bottle of Heinz salad cream in the fridge but I don't use it that often, if I'm having a salad sandwich with say roast beef or ham I'd use horseradish sauce or English mustard usually and not salad cream.

I remember the stuff. Probably had salad cream as a base, but also had "bits" in it. The taste and consistency matched that of vomit given a couple of rounds in a food processor.

I quite liked it. Happy

Pointless in Scotland. Doesn't go down well with the old Glasgow salad which is the closest us Scots get to healthy eating.

If I could bring back one item of food/drink that is no longer with us then it would be Creamola Foam.
1998 was a black year indeed when production was ended.

I've had it Moisok. Got some in an order from Retro Sweets.
Only had Raspberry which was my favourite. Close but no cigar unfortunately.
Nothing to do with the passing of time as I regularly bought this up til production ended.
Pretty strong stuff, spilt some on a work top and took an age to shift.

Aka: I like Salad Cream with chips. If I'm a canteen and get chips and grab some sachets, I'll put salad cream on them!
The Belgians are famous for chips with mayo on them, which is a bit similar, get them in Holland as well.
