I haven't taken my medication today paul, I've not been making rational decisions all day. I think we'll win our group fairly comfortably and get knocked out at the quarter final stage. My two picks are France and Germany for the likely winners, Brazil just has to be a lay in my book.

Can a South American team win in Europe? Hasn't been done since Brazil at Sweden 1958.
Having said that, in the 'modern' era, with so many of the top South Americans playing in Europe, I always thought it was more likely than a European team winning in the Americas. Prior to Germany winning in Brazil, the WC has been held in S America six times and won by Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina (twice each).

They say that to win a WC, a team need five world class players. France do, on paper.
However, sometimes it's not until after the tournament that a player is recognised as world class.
In any event, it's a cup competition and you don't need to be the best team in the world to win the World Cup. You don't even necessarily need to be the best team at the tournament.
I might have a few quid on Belgium. They have a kind draw so may well be a back to lay.

I predict that someone on Football or Chit Chat will post:
On a break between training sessions, England players paid a visit to a Kaliningrad orphanage.
"It's heartbreaking to see their forlon, demoralised little faces," said Andrei, aged 9.

Can't be having Germany at all, have backed them to go out in the Group Stage. Record of last few winners next time out is shocking, and I think Loew's reliance on some jaded performers instead of some more promising youngsters will find them out.

The 10/11 Uruguay to win Group A is too big, as is the 4/5 Australia to finish bottom of Group C.
As for the outright winners, Portugal look a decent bet - their style won't make many friends, but they've proved it takes you far in tournaments - they didn't even win a Group match at the 2016 Euros and still won the tournament. 25/1 works for me, particularly given one could argue they have a little more flair in forward positions than in 2016.

Tunisia at 10s and Panama at 20s to beat England look value. If England score early the bets are dead, but England can make heavy weather of things. Have Panama only a 5% chance to win? Dier, Stones, Maguire, Henderson are not inspiring.
I got Peru at 370s on the hope they can struggle out of their group. Colombia at 50s might be worth a gamble for the outright, a bet to lay. I don't like Belgium at 12.5, very poor value. My prediction to win is Germany, but the odds are too tight.
The top goalscorer market is an avoid. Check shirt number to see your player is in the 1 to 11 shirts. Many players are not listed e.g. Victor Moses, Nigeria shirt 11, 11 international goals, is not quoted, and the group with Argentina, Croatia, Iceland is not the toughest. Gonzalo Higuain, Argentina number 9, at 65s, is my small bet, 31 international goals in 71 matches.
Nominate the finalists market odds are way to tight at the moment, crazy bad value And England are in many of the bets indicating the usual mania, and over-optimism. The odds will improve greatly (as with most markets) nearer the start. France/Colombia is my finalists choice, and it is not listed. I think Betfair need to bulk out the choices, or put an "any others" in the odds.
11 of 11 of England's first 11 shirts play in England. 10 of 11 of Brazil's first 11 shirts play outside Brazil. 11 of 11 of Argentina's first 11 shirts play outside Argentina 10 of 11 of Colombia's first 11 shirts play outside Colombia. Stay at home for easy money players / players bought by foreign clubs for their ability You have to think a few of the other squads will be more accustomed to living away from home for a month.
