More material used?
|
|
By:
More cloth costs more money. I bet they don't complain about paying extra for them supersize Maccy D's. Should arguably apply to flight tickets also.
|
|
By:
not a bad idea if they did charge differently for each size but as size 0 pay same as size 16 its a bit
of a publicity stunt, to up price at size 18, never seen price differences in mens clothes in shops by size hey ho |
|
By:
I really doubt whether the extra material amounts to much in terms of £££. However, it is bigger and so should cost more. A 3-man tent costs more than a 2-man tent.
There is a terrible amount of acceptance regarding being overweight. Terms such as "plus-size" are not helpful. It's not about being better looking by being slimmer; it's about health. No one likes it when A&E is full of drunks on the weekend and nobody should like it when the health service has to deal with weight related illnesses caused through poor eating choices. Obesity and feral youths are all down to a severe lack of discipline in society and an unwillingness to take personal responsibility. |

It's about time parents were charged with neglect for allowing their children to be overweight - it would stop within a decade.

I read somewhere recently that someone had said it is the first time in history that poor people are fat. That's quite an achievement.

Surely it's time for airline companies to adjusting fares to reflect the weight of their passengers?
We're charged for extra weight in our luggage, so why not charge fatties for extra body weight? |

yeah Callisto - its usually an extra £1 for each extra pound.

In the overwhelming majority of cases I Agree With Nick, fat people are fat because they consume more calories than they expend. Of course there are some people who fit your criteria, but they are rare - obesity is due to diet and lifestyle.
I'm afraid that excusing their gluttony and laziness with the old 'big-boned' trope does the obese themselves no good. |

Jed, I was being a little ironic.
However, as a slim person myself, I do believe that some people are more predisposed than others to weight gain. That said, I can see how people put on weight. If you eat a normal but healthy diet, it can actually be quite difficult to get your 1,800 - 2,500 calories per day. A dinner plate piled high with vegetables might contain as few as 40 calories whereas a single biscuit could have 100. |

In the sales the only stuff that is left is the very big or very small so I reckon your average whale pays less for their clothes than you're average average person
|
|
By:
one has to consider the food industries involvement in all this - I mean for instance the plain chocolate digestive. I could eat a whole packet easily. Not anymore though. I am now down to a reasonable weight and size. Consider the breakfast cereal - stuffed full of sugar and carbs at the same time claiming it is healthy to eat it. etc etc etc. Salt and sugar lavishly applied to make anything taste more appealing. Then throw into the mix the television, computers and video games. VOILA!!! Fatness. Simples.

When I fly, I sit on the plane dreading who's going to come and sit next to us.
I always book the two seats nearest the window and sit in the middle. Making sure the arm rest is down on my outside, so that if a portly person has booked the outside seat next to me, they'll have to spill over into the gangway and not on myself. |

yeah Callisto - its usually an extra £1 for each extra pound. Thomas Cook charge £10-16 per kilo at the airport if you do not book extra allowance in advance |

LOL could you imagine the pricing policies he'd come out with if Ryanair made clothes?
"Ryanflair" would have the snowflakes and fatties spitting their cake in rage! |

Have a look at some young American people in 1970. Imagine the shapes of people doing something similar now. |

just the latest in a long line of worthless news stories driven entirely by distraction politics
They must sit in their boardrooms all day, every day, thinking up the next big trigger-point/issue that's guaranteed to have idiots queuing up to take offence at. This one is especially bonkers. The sliding scale of clothing price versus size, has been going on since the year dot. Never seemed to be a problem before. Not one single eyelid was ever batted. |

Well the obvious conclusion to take from that Jack is that the hugely increased drag coefficient of walking around with flared trousers and affros (not to mention dancing in platform shoes) leads to weight loss!

A woman dress size 20 pays a tenner more for a frock than a woman dress size 12, seems fair enough to me.

I'm sure I've seen it on mens shirts. Maybe we're less snowflakey.
It doesn't bother me, it makes total sense. They cost more to make and transport and store = to get same margin, charge a bit more. It's totally reasonable. |

It is hilarious watching the fat ones on tv complaining slumped their on their sofas instead of being up and about getting rid of it and making themselves healthier. They really don't get it do they.

I always thought large sized people had great fun buying clothes because every time there's a sale the most reduced pieces are XL to XXXXXXXL.
Moreover, this is a non-issue, deliberately being promoted either by the shop itself or by the media just to get some views. The large size costs 22 and the smaller one 19. This is neither discrimination nor fat tax. The smaller size is just missing the SALE tag. If you put the SALE tag on the smaller size, you realize how stupid this issue is. |

They can't help themselves, most of them end up being a burden on someone else.
Went to a big out of town clothing store earlier. Full of fat or obese well dressed people with plenty to spend. Yet none of them look happy, you have to question their intelligence. Well heeled but making themselves unhappy and ill, by being unable to resist eating too much. Gorging themselves and bloated, they must feel lousy all the time. |

That's exactly how I feel after almost every meal and I weigh 50kg. |

By:
Oh, someone who weighs less than me
How does shopping for clothes work for you Detraveller? I have to buy my trousers/jeans on the internet as no shop in town has my size (30 inch waist) Am I being discriminated against?? |
