Stroking the egos of pampered people with already large egos.  Entertainment, in all its forms, is useful and enjoyable but the people who do it are on way too high a pedestal.

Most of them probably hate going to these things....they have to as it's in their contracts.

Doubtful, they are all about self promotion, like when they are on children in need, its all about their profile and income. Then followed by the media praising them like they are some semi-god.
