What have you sold on Ebay which shocked you how much you got for it?

I listed an old Freemans catalogue 1970s thinking I might get a fiver for it. It sold for £190

casemoney - correct!  what is weird, or perhaps not weird, is that that the rank order of value seems to be salmon, trout, course and sea reels in that order. He has a huge 6" Hardy alloy sea reel that he used to beach casting withCry. It is lovely and is going nowhere, even though it is "low" value.

A shop near me had 2 tubs of a pet product that they were selling for £1 each.  They looked too good for a quid so I had a look online and found the brand website retails them for £37 each.  I went back, bought the lot (144 items) and am currently selling them for £25 each.

Hey TMM, I collect baseball cards too, albeit only Milwaukee Brewers. I do have plenty of non-Brewers but they are all for sale, and have a few Topps factory sets, which aren't. Are yours mainly vintage? If so, do you sell them on ebay? In my experience ebayUK is a terrible place to be selling, although I've had some great deals buying - once bought a box of 70s stuff for a tenner and it contained multiple cards that paid for the box by themselves. I still have two Pete Maravich RCs from it, just waiting to ship them off to the US when I can be arsed.

Hi Mikael, I like the vintage cards featuring the great players, but I have lots of modern ones mostly Topps. I did sell all the  doublers I had on Ebay USA as a job lot. I remember conversing with a poster on the Baseball forum many years ago who was a Brewers fan and actually came from Milwaukee.

Was Maravich not a Basketball player?

Barry Bonds signed and sent me a limited edition card celebrating his record breaking 762 Home Runs! Pity about the bad press which may have decreased it`s value.

Report Mikael D'Haguenet May 12, 2018 1:38 PM BST
Yeah, Maravich played hoops. Came in a box with bundles of stars - Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to me and you,) Nolan Ryan, Thurman Munson, even OJ Simpson. Sold all bar the basketball cards since they're the 'tallboy' size and I had no way to protect them.

I still buy Bonds now, bought two this morning in fact. Values have indeed plummeted but they're recovering.

(You sure the Brewers fan wasn't me? My wife is from Milwaukee...)

Aka, I have some old Baseball cigarette cards, but mostly collectors cards which are a bit bigger.

They are highly collectable. Honus Wagner's 1909-11 T206 card sold for over 3 million dollars. Old cards can get over one millions dollars like Topps Micky Mantle card.

Report i_agree_with_nick May 12, 2018 7:14 PM BST
A lot tougher now to make money selling on ebay.

Much more competition with sellers cutting margins to the bone.
Buyers have wised-up and have less money to spend.
Sellers catch on very quickly - if you have found something that sells well, someone else will follow.
Items going "missing" in the post.
Ebay imposing onerous rules on sellers.

Geoff - rare vintage racing books can fetch good money if in good nick, e.g. Charlie Smirke, Eph Smith, John Porter are quite rare. Modern biographies go for a couple of quid, Timeform annuals fetch ridiculously low prices, Dick Francis novels the same.
Report themightymac May 12, 2018 7:33 PM BST

I have a nice copy of Sir Gordon Richard`s biography My Story. It`s a very good read. Odds were stacked against him making it as a jockey and being a son of a coal miner, it was more likely he would end up down pit. Remarkable achievement. The book itself is of no particular value as there seems to be lots of them still in circulation ..... but mines is a signed copy which adds to the value. After all he cant sign anymore.

Racecards can fetch a few bob. Racing Posts, not so much. A search of sold items suggests it needs to be a big item on the front page - Arazi's BC sold for £6.05, Northern Dancer's death £8.08, so not talking a lot. Maybe Dessie's GC or the 'Sad Mad Bad' might be worth summat...

Sellers like that should be banned from selling.
You either want to sell or not, its not much effort.
And if you plan your listings properly then it should end at a time
that will allow you to dispatch within two days, obviously the buyer paying
can dent that, but a slow payer cant then moan about slightly delayed dispatch.
