Geoff - rare vintage racing books can fetch good money if in good nick, e.g. Charlie Smirke, Eph Smith, John Porter are quite rare. Modern biographies go for a couple of quid, Timeform annuals fetch ridiculously low prices, Dick Francis novels the same.
|
|
By:
.... if you have Aynsley china of Arkle or Nijinsky you will get good money. Plates are not worth much including Royal Doulton. Personalised items associated with famous racing people like Fred Archer can be very valuable.
|
|
By:
A copy of "Tesio In His Own Words" will probably fetch a few hundred quid.
I would have thought you'd struggle to give away a Dick Francis novel. |
|
By:
1p for Dick Francis novels on Amazon. Nat Gould novels were better but very hard to find nowadays.
I have a very good copy of Tesio In His Own Words. |
|

I have a nice copy of Sir Gordon Richard`s biography My Story. It`s a very good read. Odds were stacked against him making it as a jockey and being a son of a coal miner, it was more likely he would end up down pit. Remarkable achievement. The book itself is of no particular value as there seems to be lots of them still in circulation ..... but mines is a signed copy which adds to the value. After all he cant sign anymore.

Geoff M - "Anyone sold horse racing memorabilia? Got a hoard that i could do with getting rid of".
If you would like to pm me with what you have, I can give you some advice. I bought and sold in this market for many years, but no longer, so my advice will be unbiased. I need nothing more for my collection, unless you have any "Tout" caricatures or any Britains "Racing Colours" lead figures/jockeys |

There was two big cast iron jockeys (with colours) on Ebay recently. Was it you that bought them BB?

have you been to the new Horse racing museum? |
|

Hi Delta, not not yet! I hear it is excellent and will defo go on my next visit to Norfolk (nb I do know Newmarket is in Suffolk!!)

I have stacks of football programmes (maybe 400) 60s to early 80s, a few 1950s Leeds United ones. Many clubs, possibly 50 different ones.
They've been gathering dust for years. Gut feel is they won't be worth much. |

There was a guy selling 20 pics (delivered via email) of his wife posing
for £15 noticed he had sold quite a few lots. Purchased the set then relisted for £4.99 I sold 400 sets in 2 weeks. He was giving me abuse and complaining to ebay. The deciding factor was there was zero copyright and at no point had he stated they were not for resale. |

Many years ago I bought four Pelham puppets for £75. One was a witch doctor, not much to it with a grass skirt. Sold it to a fella in Germany for £135

If I remember correctly I think I made about as much again if not a bit more on the other three. Funnily enough the one I thought would make a few bob, Pinky out of Pinky and Perky only made £30 !

By:
Good job I checked last post, spell check had it come out as Kinky out of Kinky and Perky

Hi Blackbarn. Will do give me a day or 2 to put a bit of a list together .
Mainly books/photos/dvds/racecards/frankel memorabilia/racing posts etc.................. from mid 70s onwards Many thanks for the kind offer. |
|
By:
Im rattling about in 4 bed house and gonna downsize next year so got to look to start getting rid of all/most
|
|
By:
Geoff, don't suppose THAT photo of Pendil is among the lot...?
Racecards can fetch a few bob. Racing Posts, not so much. A search of sold items suggests it needs to be a big item on the front page - Arazi's BC sold for £6.05, Northern Dancer's death £8.08, so not talking a lot. Maybe Dessie's GC or the 'Sad Mad Bad' might be worth summat... Somebody might pay for something like all the Tony Morris columns, for example. That said, you're no doubt better off listening to blackbarn! |
|
By:
Just noticed that the Northern Dancer one has 'Shop Copy' written on it. A pristine, not-nicked version might get a tenner!

Have a 1970 Derby card in perfect condition Nijinsky won that year worth around £150

I had every edition of the Racing Post. Was getting out of hand, so I put the lot in the skip. Worth nowt. Now old comics, that`s a different story. The money you can make off them, if you have the right ones, is quite staggering. Got over £500 for a pile of Tiger comics in very good condition.

|
By:
Thanks TMM, but that's not THE pic (as you probably well know.) Made me switch to the new forum for nowt!

I've made a sale this evening to a chap 5 minutes up the road. Do I drop it over, saving myself a couple of quid, or do I preserve my anonymity and post it?
|
|
By:
No problem Mikael. Photos of Pendil are indeed very rare, despite him being one of the greatest chasers that ever lived. Is it this one perhaps

|
By:
Made you switch again!
|
|
By:
Post it lybertine
|
|
By:
It just dawned on me Mikael. It must be the famous one when he is jumping the open ditch, a spectacular photo
|
|
By:
You did make me switch and yes, it is the open ditch pic that I mean. Started a thread about it a few years ago.
I woulda got Indian Skimmer instantly btw! |
|
By:
Actually, not sure it was a ditch come to think of it. Either way, spectacular is the perfect word.

Bumped the thread on hoss racing.

They've been gathering dust for years. Gut feel is they won't be worth much. You might be surprised what a fan will pay. I sold a 1970 Forest v Everton programme (with ticket) to an Everton fan for £30. |

Don't ever be tempted to deliver or have ebay items collected unless it is strictly cash only. If buyer has paid by Paypal he can simply go back to them a week or two later and claim non delivery. You of course will have no receipt of posting therefore you lose every time.
|
|
By:
ebay winds me up lazy sellers who take forever to post, then they all use the same excuse of family problems.
ok granted people do have them but weak excuse. purchased an item last wednesday and just contacted the seller today. Amazing reply that I just caught him in the act of posting and hes sorry had family trouble. |
|
By:
Buyers who don't turn up. Selling something for pennies, wait in for the buyer who doesn't turn up. I text him no reply. Text the next day, no reply. Leave it a couple of days still nothing. Write a negative feedback...the bloke is on the phone in 1/2 hr saying when can he call. Told him not to bother...or words to that effect.

My last two purchases.
No sorry does not come with tracking number and very sorry its being posted today ive had family issues to deal with and not had the time but im on my way to post in next 20mins Hi I am at work so do t have postage receipt with me I will send when home this eve. Though do apologise it was only posted Monday as late home Friday and working Sat am ..sorry I should have advised . |
|
By:
My last two ebay purchases never arrived. The first one 'forgot to post'. Never bothered asking the second one.
|
|
By:
Sellers like that should be banned from selling.
You either want to sell or not, its not much effort. And if you plan your listings properly then it should end at a time that will allow you to dispatch within two days, obviously the buyer paying can dent that, but a slow payer cant then moan about slightly delayed dispatch. |

Got over £500 for a pile of Tiger comics in very good condition.
I feel sick. I had a massive collection of those in pristine condition, circa 57-59. My favourite comic at the time, and I hoarded them most carefully. Guess what happened to them! What era were yours TMM, 60's at a guess, making mine worth even more, if only. |
