it will be odd if we can buy a £5 scratch card in the local shop, but are restricted to £2 on the fobt

They used to have tax on bets. It was taken off at about the time the fobt's were taking off!
It doesn't compare very well with scratchcards or Euromillions, as people wouldn't buy them in the same volume that they might press the button on an fobt.
(I actually argued this with an MP on the Victoria Derbyshire show a few years ago

The £2 is by no means certain yet, I very much hope it really is reduced that far.

leaving it somewhere around £5-10 would seem more logical to me for the games
maybe limit the slots to £2 a spin, and turn it to something like £10 per minute per machine

If things were fair. They would be banned from betting shops all together.
I'd imagine that no-one has ever asked the people who play them what THEY would like to see.

Wont these people just move onto online casinos which is pretty much another guaranteed way of losing cash. You only have to turn ITV on beyond a set time and some scantily clad female is enticing some poor lonely skint sod to "leave the dream" with the roulette wheel spinning round.
