With the FOBT limit about the be set at £2, which other forms of gambling are likely to "plug the shortfall"?

"Yesterday Treasury insiders said that Mr Hammond has never opposed moves to reduce the stake to the minimum demanded by campaigners but has insisted that other public services do not lose out from lost gambling levies. The machines raise more than £450 million a year for the exchequer.
They say he believes that he is close to a deal with Mr Hancock, which will see levies rise on other forms of gambling to plug the shortfall."

it will be odd if we can buy a £5 scratch card in the local shop, but are restricted to £2 on the fobt

euromillions is £2.50

i know its not the same, just odd.

They used to have tax on bets. It was taken off at about the time the fobt's were taking off!

It doesn't compare very well with scratchcards or Euromillions, as people wouldn't buy them in the same volume that they might press the button on an fobt.
(I actually argued this with an MP on the Victoria Derbyshire show a few years ago Cool)

The £2 is by no means certain yet, I very much hope it really is reduced that far.

Who is Mr Hancock?

leaving it somewhere around £5-10 would seem more logical to me for the games

maybe limit the slots to £2 a spin, and turn it to something like £10 per minute per machine

nice if government take notice of public over bookies

If things were fair. They would be banned from betting shops all together.

I'd imagine that no-one has ever asked the people who play them what THEY would like to see.
Most of them are addicted and sorry they are, so would mostly be the first to say they want them gone, or be limited to £2.
To save themselves.

Wont these people just move onto online casinos which is pretty much another guaranteed way of losing cash. You only have to turn ITV on beyond a set time and some scantily clad female is enticing some poor lonely skint sod to "leave the dream" with the roulette wheel spinning round.

The problem there is, you need a debit/credit card.

Bank account/Internet and your other 1/2 not to have access to your bank details and also be away Happy
