Streets of Fire is a 1984 film directed by Walter Hill and co-written by Hill and Larry Gross. It is described in its opening credits and posters as "A Rock & Roll Fable".[2] The film is a mix of musical, action, neo-noir, drama, and comedy, with elements of retro-1950s and 1980s. It stars Michael Paré as a mercenary who returns home to rescue his ex-girlfriend (Diane Lane) who has been kidnapped by the leader of a biker gang (Willem Dafoe). Some of the film was shot on the backlot of Universal Studios in California, on two large sets covered in a tarp 1,240 feet long by 220 feet wide, so that night scenes could be filmed during the day.

Two songs written by Jim Steinman were part of the soundtrack: "Tonight Is What It Means to Be Young" and "Nowhere Fast", both performed by "Fire Incorporated"

"The Show Must Go On" is a song by the British rock band Queen, featured as the twelfth and final track on their 1991 album Innuendo. It is credited to Queen, but written mainly by Brian May. The song chronicles the effort of Freddie Mercury continuing to perform despite approaching the end of his life; he was dying from complications due to HIV/AIDS, although his illness had not yet been made public in spite of ongoing media speculation claiming that he was seriously ill.[1] Mercury was so ill when the band recorded the song in 1990 that May had concerns as to whether he was physically capable of singing it. Recalling Mercury's performance, May states; "I said, 'Fred, I don't know if this is going to be possible to sing.' And he went, 'I'll ****g do it, darling' — vodka down — and went in and killed it, completely lacerated that vocal."[2]

To be so near to the end of his life and produce vocals like this just amazes me. Miss you Freddie still.Sad

Steve Miller Band The Joker

During the song, Steve Miller references The Clovers' 1954 song "Lovey Dovey" when he sings "You're the cutest thing that I ever did see / Really love your peaches, wanna shake your tree / Lovey dovey, lovey dovey, lovey dovey all the time".

The song is noted for its wolf whistle played on a slide guitar after the "lovey dovey" parts and the "some people call me Maurice" part.

The line "some people call me Maurice / 'Cause I speak of the pompatus of love" was written after Miller heard the song "The Letter" by The Medallions. In "The Letter", writer Vernon Green made up the word puppetutes, meaning a paper-doll erotic fantasy figure;[7] however, Miller misheard the word and wrote pompatus instead.[8]

I Don't Believe You

"I Don't Believe You" is a song by American recording artist Pink. It was released as the sixth single from her fifth studio album, Funhouse.[1]

"I Don't Believe You" is set in common time and played in the key of A-flat major.[2] The guitar and piano are used for the background music, while Pink's voice follows the A♭ —Fm7—Cm—D♭—A♭ chord progression.[2] Pink explained on her website that, lyrically, the song is about pleading for reconciliation, and is her favourite song from Funhouse "because it's just so naked. It's like taking a deep breathe and saying, 'Here I am. Take me. Take your best shot'."[3] She went on to explain that:

"The first thing that comes to my mind with I Don't Believe You is me standing in the vocal booth listening... Actually in the control room listening to this song, tears running down my face, just like '****, really?' It's the vulnerable weak side of me that I don't let out very often. And it's [sighs], yeah it's that song. And I love it, I love it. I just love it, it's very near and dear to me."[3]

"Like a Rock" is a song written by American singer-songwriter Bob Seger. It was recorded with The Silver Bullet Band and released in May 1986 as the second single from their album Like a Rock. The single peaked at #1 on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks.[1]

Seger told the New York Times that the song "was inspired partly by the end of a relationship I had that had lasted for 11 years. You wonder where all that time went. But beyond that, it expresses my feeling that the best years of your life are in your late teens when you have no special commitments and no career. It's your last blast of fun before heading into the cruel world."[2]

MY FAIRY KING by QUEEN

This is the song which may have inspired Freddie Mercury to change his last name. The lyrics contain a verse with the words "Mother Mercury, look what they've done to me." Brian May has said that after the line was written, Freddie claimed he was singing about his mother. Subsequently, Freddie Bulsara took the stage name Freddie Mercury

The inspiration for "My Fairy King" comes from Robert Browning's poem The Pied Piper, while the lines "And their dogs outran our fallow deer / And honey-bees had lost their stings / And horses were born with eagles' wings" are quoted directly from the poem.

In 1970 just as Queen formed, initially they had no bass player - Tim Staffell, the bassist and vocalist of Brian May and Roger Taylor's previous band Smile, had left to join the ill-fated Humpy Bong. So before they found John Deacon, they tried multiple bassists, one of whom being Barry Mitchell, who alleges that "My Fairy King" was written, or at least existed, during his short spell with the band in 1970.

This would make it one of the very first Queen original songs written, as many songs from around this time were leftovers from Smile or Mercury's old bands Ibex, Wreckage and Sour Milk Sea.
This was the first track that Queen played during their debut radio appearance, a 1973 John Peel session for BBC Radio 1.
"My Fairy King" was the first Queen song to feature Mercury's piano skills. Guitarist Brian May said of the song's recording:

"This was the first time we'd really seen Freddie [Mercury] working at his full capacity. He's virtually a self-taught pianist, and he was making vast strides at the time, although we didn't have a piano on stage at that point because it would have been impossible to fix up.

So, in the studio was the first chance Freddie had to do his piano things and we actually got that sound of the piano and the guitar working for the first time which was very exciting. 'My Fairy King' was the first of these sort of epics where there were lots of voice overdubs and harmonies. Freddie got into this, and that led to 'The March Of The Black Queen' on the second album and then 'Bohemian Rhapsody' later on."

"Gimme All Your Lovin'" is a song by ZZ Top from their 1983 album Eliminator. It was released as the album's first single in 1983.

Initially unsuccessful in the UK upon its August 1983 release, in the wake of the band's American success (the single reached no. 37 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart), it was promptly re-released, and reached no. 10 on the UK Singles Chart. It ties with the band's 1992 cover of Elvis Presley's "Viva Las Vegas" as their highest-charting single in the UK. The song was produced by band manager Bill Ham, and recorded and mixed by Terry Manning.

"Stop This Game" is a song by American rock band Cheap Trick, released in 1980 as the lead single from their fifth studio album All Shook Up. It was written by Rick Nielsen and Robin Zander, and produced by George Martin.[2] "Stop This Game" reached No. 48 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and No. 32 on the Canadian RPM Top Singles.[3][4]

Upon release, Billboard described the song as one that "starts off on a mellow note before some thunderous guitar licks take charge and the tune becomes a forceful rocker. Lead vocals are full of gut level intensity."[5] In a review of All Shook Up, Billboard described the song as an "epic, mid-tempo rocker".[6] David Fricke of Rolling Stone described the song as one of the album's "clever pop curves", describing it as recalling The Who and noting the "dense, pseudo-ELO orchestration".[7] In a retrospective review of the album, Stewart Mason of AllMusic recommended the song by selecting it as an AMG Pick Track.[8]

"Lift Me Up" is a song by American singer-songwriter Christina Aguilera, taken from her sixth studio album Bionic (2010). The song was written and produced by Linda Perry, who also provided all the song's instrumentation. Perry and Aguilera previously collaborated on Aguilera's records Stripped (2002) and Back to Basics (2006), and on her compilation Keeps Gettin' Better: A Decade of Hits (2008), and the singer enlisted Perry again to work on Bionic as the main producer. However, Perry only wrote and produced "Lift Me Up".

Described as an empowering piano ballad, "Lift Me Up" talks about being thankful to someone for helping the protagonist through hard times. The song was first premiered during the Hope for Haiti Now telethon that was held on January 22, 2010 and later, it was included on the charity album, Hope for Haiti Now. The live version differs from the album version, since it features a more stripped, acoustic sound and the album version has an electronic addition

"Whole Lotta Rosie" is a song by Australian hard rock band AC/DC. It is the eighth and final track on the band's fourth Australian album, Let There Be Rock, released in Australia in March 1977, and was written by Angus Young, Malcolm Young, and Bon Scott. It is also the eighth and final track on the international version of the album, released in June the same year.

It was also released as a single in 1978, with a live version of the Let There Be Rock album track "Dog Eat Dog" as the B-side, which had been recorded in concert in Glasgow on 30 April 1978.

The song is about an obese Tasmanian woman, Rosie, with whom the singer (Bon Scott) had a one-night stand at the Freeway Gardens Motel in North Melbourne.[2] In addition to pointing out the woman's size, the singer finds her to be one of the most talented lovers he's ever experienced.

While not an original member, Mike Porcaro was a Toto mainstay as far back as 1980. He originally served their touring bass player before becoming a full-fledged member when David Hungate departed after the recording of 1982’s Toto IV.

Initially, Mike’s contributions were subtle. Perhaps it was the tight chemistry he had with his big brother Jeff on drums. The two of them played so tightly, it was sometimes difficult to tell where one ended and the other began.

That started to change with “Can You Hear What I’m Saying” from Past to Present. Suddenly, Mike Porcaro’s bass playing was front and center and it was solid, it was tight and it added a dimension to Toto’s sound that they may not have even realized was missing until they heard it.

Kingdom of Desire went further to correct the oversight. No longer was Mike’s bass playing getting buried in the mix, as on previous albums. Perhaps on no song was that more evident than on “Don’t Chain My Heart.” And once again, Jeff and Mike Porcaro are playing so tightly the familial bond is undeniable.

The song is further buoyed by Steve Lukather’s rhythm guitar work and somewhat-gravelly vocals that fit the song perfectly. While Toto sounded great as a quintet or sextet (with Bobby Kimball, Fergie Frederiksen, or Joe Williams and Steve Porcaro) on prior albums, there was a certain transcendent chemistry with this stripped-down quartet version on Kingdom of Desire. The one thing that shines through on this album in general, and on “Don’t Chain My Heart” in particular, is a joy in performing together. The band is having fun. They’re playing as one unit. All of the songs on the album are attributed to Toto as a whole, or the band as a whole with one or two outside writers. None of the members took individual credit for their songwriting or their lyrics.

While Kingdom of Desire may not be as accessible as much of Toto’s more pop-friendly catalog, songs like “Don’t Chain My Heart” keep people coming back for more.

The second Boston album Don't Look Back came out in 1978 to great anticipation and it was well received, including this song, "A Man I'll Never Be." I was in a relationship with a girl who ultimately figured out I wasn't the man she'd built up in her mind - one of the dangers of long distance relationships - that I was who I was, not who she wanted or hoped I was. I didn't try to mis represent myself, but apparently she got the impression or imposed her ideals on me and the real me didn't live up to that, so she moved on and eventually let me know. It was harder to lose her than to realize I wasn't the guy she thought I was - I was me, I didn't pretend to be anyone else. I wasn't the rough man of the world she somehow saw me as, I was more a spiritual thinker, a romantic.

"A Man I'll Never Be" is about a man in a similar situation, but in his case, she thinks he's a better man than he is. He can't live up to the image she has of him, he's not the hero, he's not as trustworthy or idealized as she thinks. He can't bring himself to tell her because he knows when he does, she will walk out on him. Deep down, he feels awful at this, knowing what a miserable wretch he is, he believes he cannot be any better and knows how much it will hurt her to find out.

There's another way of looking at this song that is even more tragic.  Singer Brad Delp committed suicide in 2007, and if you read the lyrics in that light it becomes even more sad than before.  Tom Scholz wrote "A Man I'll Never Be" but you can imagine what was going through Brad Delp's mind if he struggled with depression and left a suicide note stating "I am a lonely man."  Lyrics like "I can't get any stronger/I can't climb any higher/You'll never know just how hard I've tried" take on new meaning: I can't get out of this pit, I can't feel the love you give me, I can't make it past this sadness in my soul.

Either way, this is a very sad song with great soaring guitar work that characterizes Boston, a song that in a way would be a great country song but was put to rock music.

"Send In the Clowns" is a song written by Stephen Sondheim for the 1973 musical A Little Night Music, an adaptation of Ingmar Bergman's film Smiles of a Summer Night. It is a ballad from Act Two, in which the character Desirée reflects on the ironies and disappointments of her life. Among other things, she looks back on an affair years earlier with the lawyer Fredrik, who was deeply in love with her but whose marriage proposals she had rejected. Meeting him after so long, she realizes she is in love with him and finally ready to marry him, but now it is he who rejects her: he is in an unconsummated marriage with a much younger woman. Desirée proposes marriage to rescue him from this situation, but he declines, citing his dedication to his bride. Reacting to his rejection, Desirée sings this song. The song is later reprised as a coda after Fredrik's young wife runs away with his son, and Fredrik is finally free to accept Desirée's offer.[1]

Sondheim wrote the song specifically for the actress Glynis Johns, who created the role of Desirée on Broadway. The song is structured with four verses and a bridge, and uses a complex compound meter. It became Sondheim's most popular song after Frank Sinatra recorded it in 1973 and Judy Collins' version charted in 1975 and 1977. Subsequently, numerous other artists recorded the song, and it has become a jazz standard.

"Silver Machine" is a 1972 song by the UK rock group Hawkwind. It was originally released as a single on 9 June 1972, reaching number three on the UK singles chart. The single was re-issued in 1976, again in 1978 reaching number 34 on the UK singles charts, and once again in 1983 reaching number 67 on the UK singles charts. The original mix has been re-released on the remasters version of In Search of Space.

The writing credit on the single is Robert Calvert and someone who claims to be Sylvia MacManus[1]. It was often speculated that it was something of a pseudonym for the famous wrestler Mick McManus. She was Dave Brock’s then wife Sylvia, whose maiden name was Macmanus which Dave used for the credits in order to put pressure on his publishing company to improve his deal.[2] The verse is an eight-bar rock and roll boogie whose riff is an adaption of the standard riff that can be heard on the likes of Johnny and the Hurricanes' "Red River Rock"

The lyrics were written by Robert Calvert and he sang the lead vocal on the original live recording. However, the vocals were considered too weak (About this sound sample (help·info)) for the single release so they were re-recorded in the studio. Calvert, who suffered from bi-polar disorder, had been sectioned at the time so was unavailable to attempt another version, and the lead vocals were eventually recorded by Lemmy:

[Calvert's] vocal was ****g hopeless, but he never realised it. That's how mad he was. It sounded like Captain Kirk reading 'Blowing in the Wind'. They tried everybody singing it except me. Then, as a last shot, Douglas said, 'Try Lemmy'. And I did it in one take or two.[4]

Lemmy just had the best voice for it. Of course, Bob was not pleased when he found out. – Douglas Smith[5]

The lyrics are a send-up of space travel, inspired by the Alfred Jarry essay How to Construct a Time Machine which Calvert interpreted as a description of how to build a bicycle:
