It always makes me wonder how good these lads are on a day to day knockabout basis Shocked
I used to play with a couple of lads (who were my mates at the time) who were capable of centuries and have seen both clear the table.
They were local standard players and was very normal for either to win at one visit yet they were obviously nothing compared to pros but on a completely different level to someone like myself then 30/40/50/60 type player.

A couple of Higgins vids there's a fair bit of talking in the first one but interesting to hear given the stage of his life it was done at.

Higgins got the record for the highest break ever.
Obviously involved a free ball at the start.

Denzil, I used to play to pro standard and have coached a couple of youngsters who showed promise and keenness to learn.

I took one of them to a pro-am in West Norwood, where Hawkins used to have his practise table. There were some top players of the future there that day, including Hawkins himself, who won his first round match with two total clearances of 135 and 136.

Bingham was there, whom I had played a few times when he was a young boy, so I knew he had the game to make it and he was just starting out. So Bingham is practising with his mate, they're having a laugh and a cup of tea between shots, stopping to talk now and then, nothing serious at all. Then they start a frame, Bingham sees the balls are set up nicely, and just makes a 147 like it was the most normal thing in the world, takes about ten or twelve minutes and never looked in the slightest doubt.

I've played a lot of the top boys, and when there's no pressure on, they hardly ever miss any pot of any kind. In fact, if you practise with Anthony Hamilton, you're likely to wait weeks for him to miss a ball. They are all like it.

Great post jed that's what I sort of imagined Grin
I used to always tell people that what we see on the telly won't be the best of these guys because of the pressure/expectation etc. how they handle it all stone cold sober is beyond me.

Jed, that club was my local and I used to go in their with a group of mates at say 22.00 on a Friday night and we'd finish playing crash sometime on Sunday afternoon! We used to give the then manager a few quid to keep the club and the bar open for us. I've left that place in a right state on more than 1 occasion Blush
