Wonderful for the participants and their family but a total yawn for the general public unless you work for the BBC who big it up out of all proportion.Similar to Sky and that unmitigated bore F1.

Comparing watching the Olympics or World Championships and then the Commonwealth games is like every January watching the PDC darts then watching the BDO.

best thing so far has been Chris Hoy's obvious irritation with Becky Adlington's dizzy blond routine

Literally sometime in the early 1980s when I was old enough to appreciate it was only a few countries and didn't include by a long way the best in their disciplines.

BBC hyping it to ridiculous levels, I guess because they have a free run and no competition to show it. Has there ever been any polls showing how many watch this rubbish?

Also shows the worse of the media. News segment in the Andrew Marr Show in the Sports section only mentioned one item. A NI vaulter in the gymnastics. Just as bad, the brief headline news slot on Sky news just before 9am only had 3 stories and in this order, The Masters, PL football and F1 - of course all their sports.

To set the record straight. In the 9.25 Sky News sports section, the Commonwealth Games got a look in, after the Golf and Footie, but before the F1.

Anything which elevates the rug muncher to our TV screens HAS to be an immediate turn off.

So many 'thin' events , with stars not turning up and few nations being competitive.
Considering I was hooked on Athletics  as a kid in 1974 as Filbert Bayi beat John Walker , Ben Jipcho , Big Bren and many others  in the Christchurch Commonwealth games breaking the world record in the greatest athletics race I have ever seen.

The Sevens should be good as it suffers little from missing nations .

It is like watching the EPL. Its **** but they hype fools the majority.

He is still doing the synchronised so however he hurt his hip, his synchro partner has to hurt it the same way

Caster Semenya probably could have given them a lap start - she strolled home.  I think they are going to have to rethink entry to the women's sport, the current rules are not working.  Also the women's weight lifting, there was a sigh of relief the woman retired through injury.

I think re: rules Annie, the IAAF and IOC have behaved just as the ICC behaved when the darling of an entire continent was clearly chucking the ball. They have simply moved the goalposts to allow them to carry on.

Good luck to it, but shouldn't be allowed to compete against women and must be causing huge embarrassment to the people running the sport.

system thst allows one athlete to be so massively superior.

Talking about Caster Semenya...  In 1962 Filipino athlete Mona Sulaiman won the 100m, 200m and got bronze in the shot put in the Asian Games.  She refused to have a gender test prior to the 1966 Asian Games so wasn't allowed to compete.

IAAF are coming to a resolution on Caster Semenya and hyper androgyny this year.  When her form dipped after her initial success it was i think because the IAAF insisted she took testosterone reducing medication, which they later relaxed.  Personally I think it's a farce that she can compete as she is doing.

Hyperandrogenism, also known as androgen excess, is a medical condition characterized by excessive levels of androgens (male sex hormones such as testosterone) in the female body and the associated effects of the elevated androgen levels. It is an endocrinological disorder similar to hyperestrogenism.

With the IAAF involved it might be a case of how much the South African Federation are willing to spend agree it's a farce.

I had that problem too not knowing exactly when events were on and the BBC digital service was very limited with the number of events behind the red button.

That'll be the last we see of Caster Semenya dominating the 800 and 1500m.  New IAAF rules coming into force today for anything from 400 to 1500m, which will force her to take medication.  Guess what?  Caster is stepping up in distance
