Germany unable to deport 65,000 failed asylum seekers because they don’t have any IDs

I read the other day that we have lost track of 600k entrants. The gov simply doesn't know if they have left, or not. I think I can guess the answer.

Exactly.  Alternatively put them in a camp with basic rations until they spill the beans.  That will also deter other chancers from coming over and trying it on.

Wasn't the ruse years ago was that they'd destroy their passports on arrival at Heathrow so immigration couldn't deport them as they didn't know where they were from.

Looks like the 65k have done that lovegod.

think people should have "refugees welcome" painted on their front doors if they want to re-house them, save a lot of time and red tape.

This is NOT news. This has been happening since the asylum seeking game was invented. At any given time, there are thousands of 'failed applicants that can't be deported'. It has only become news because someone decided to do a piece on it. Otherwise, it's just another day at office.

For the vast majority (all except 3.800 of the 65.000) of them they know the citizenship. It's your commonwealth friends India and Pakistan (the two biggest groups of people this is about) being deliberately slow in delivering new papers for their own citizens.

And as detraveller pointed out, it's not really news (and even RT is four late days compared to the reports surfacing in German newspapers)

Host countries will never approve deportations because they themselves run the smuggling business. If they start accepting people back, where do you think the price for smuggling goes? And no matter how much you convince the host country, the only way to prove someone is a citizen of country X is to produce the passport in that guy's name for the country X. This is the reason why people throw away their passports in the first place.

Germany has a deal with some african countries where they are nice enough to accept people back as long as the guy being deported accepts he came from that country. Even this happens in return for weapons and security that Germany provides to these countries in the name of refugee management.

I think about 5 months back, 20 odd people were murdered on the Iranian border inside Pakistan. From what I read, these people had paid a max of 1200 Euros to be sent to Europe. And this price is NOT upfront. They pay it back once they are in Germany. This is a ridiculously low price. The smuggling business has already been hit badly by how easy it had become to transport people into Europe. Nobody will ruin this already struggling business by accepting back the very people they were paid to send away.

And countries like India and Pakistan have one of the highest ratio of young men in the world. They already have more men than they need. Just another reason for why countries don't give a feck about this.

Immigrants have always pulled that trick.

Yet it can backfire on them. Many homeless people in this country want to go back but can't return because they threw their papers away.

They're the ones we see living under canal bridges and kipping in the parks.

Yes Crippen. That is the reality of asylum seekers. But just like you place a bet and you only have the green in mind, they also prefer to see the bright side but don't realize how quickly one can get fed up of Europe, even when living on free money.

By analysing their hair or teeth you can determine where an individual grew up.  This works for skeletons millenia old so I don't see why it wouldn't work for someone still alive.

Downside is the time and cost.  It would be cheaper and quicker to drop them back off on the North African coastline.  Which will never happen.  The damage is done and it's far, far worse than 1945.
