This is what happened and why people are becoming confused . South African history is a story of European settlers. It goes back centuries, longer than many countries and it just so happens that these people were white.
And some people already living there were black.
If they had been white, or if the European settlers had been black and the people there black
then there would be no question today or at any time in the past hundred years and more who the country belonged to

I would have more respect for their Government if they took over the ownership of the gold and diamond mines and they spread the country's wealth to all of the people. Look at the corruption throughout Africa, I'm sorry but many of these countries are unable to run their own affairs. South Africa would do well to keep the white farmers who will has they have done in the past generate money for the country through taxation and provide jobs for the local population

My friends Dad was a Major in The Kings African Rifles. There wasn't much slavery in Kenya. I would be interested to know what campaigns they fought against slave traders.

The roots of the Regiment originate with the clashes with Arab slave traders and warlike native tribes, which compelled the African Lakes Corporation to employ armed natives, under British officers, to protect their stations.  It was a Captain F D Lugard (Norfolk Regt.) who, in 1888, volunteered to lead a military expedition against the slave trader Mlozi.  Nyasaland became a Protectorate in 1889 and the Government formed what was to become 1st Battalion, The Central African Rifles (CAR).  A second Battalion was formed and sent to Mauritius, and then on to Somaliland to operate against the Mullah.  Lugard later became Governor of Uganda.

Finally, on 1st January, 1902, all these various Battalions were amalgamated into a new regiment, to be known as: THE KING’S AFRICAN RIFLES. There were to be six Battalions: 1st and 2nd Nyasaland, 4th Uganda, 3rd and 5th Kenya, and 6th Somaliland.

It wouldn't surprise me if Robert Baden-Powell was chiefly responsible for the adoption of underpants among the native populations of South Africa. Some say that the modern trend of brightly-coloured string vests is  also attributable to RBP's preference for a similar garment, although the old colonialist obviously preferred a less guady shade.

Little bit surprised to read the Australian Government described as 'conservative'. I doubt there's more than 3 or 4 conservatives in the Liberal Party. The PM is a paid up member of every politically correct cause imaginable.

Baden-Powell was more of a Kenya man and probably did any underpant promotion in that area. I stayed at the Outspan Hotel Nyeri which has Paxtu cottage, his final resting place, in the grounds. I'm pretty certain that the Maasai were not wearing said garment.

I was amazed at some Zimbabwe white farmers who lost their farms.  Went next door to Mozambique and started up tomato growing businesses much to the delight of locals and the government.  They are, of course, a success and creating welth and plenty of employment.  I bet our 'progressives' will choke on their Lattes after reading that.
