Yes, it's wrong, it's unpleasant, distasteful, creepy and yes, it is illegal. But is this a police matter?

The woman contacted the police after talking to her sister and her partner.

If it was my partner, I doubt I'd suggest involving the police.  A stern warning and as long as he steers clear, move on.

Maybe I'm wrong. Tell me.

I read that article earlier today and, like you, I was pretty disgusted at the way he was treated.  This is a man who did not even have a parking ticket to his name, yet he has been treated the same as a common criminal.

I think people are critical of the woman an the police rather than the court.

Report Ghetto Joe March 10, 2018 6:28 PM GMT
Why should they be critical of the woman, Nick? The CPS obviously agreed it was worth taking to court rather than a caution   despite the fact he doesn't have parking tickets. He would have been well aware of the fact he'd end up on the sexual offence register by pleading guilty and could have left it to the courts to decide if it was sexual assault but didn't. The fact he pleaded guilty means the full details wouldn't be revealed but this doesn't appear to be a simple peck on the shoulder. Even the Mail report his put his arm around her and then kissed her shoulder, neck and back of her head, hardly a quick peck and I doubt many women need counselling from what everyone seems to be assuming was a  clumsy pass from someone so innocent he doesn't even have a parking ticket.
Report i_agree_with_nick March 10, 2018 6:51 PM GMT
Joe - you may be right - there may be more to this than meets the eye.

However, on the basis of what has been reported, I believe most women wouldn't have involved the police.
Report annie. March 10, 2018 6:53 PM GMT
I missed out there, maybe I should have had counselling and  compensation for all the times I was assaulted - I would be a rich woman Laugh

One of the times was when at a christmas party I was talking to the  managing director and owner of the company I worked for when out of the blue he just leant over and started kissing me! Actually, thank god, he was a good kisser, so it gave me time to recover!  Luckily for me we were breaking up for the christmas holidays for two weeks and the party was over but he walked me to the tube station and wanted to see me over the holidays.  I made some excuse but then of course the first day back he sent for me.  He wanted to see me but I told him I had a boyfriend and he was okay with that, I didn't have  a boyfriend but although he was really nice I didn't fancy him.  So he would be classed as a sex pervert, ridiculous!
Report DenzilPenberthy March 10, 2018 6:58 PM GMT
Guilt, jealously, shame and the current sexual harrassment bandwagon the guy picked a bad time to chance his arm imo. Still think it's wrong it's not the sort of thing I've ever felt comfortable with (me to a woman) even if you know you're on a cert it's still on the creepy side and never as a friendly gesture. Had he been gay he would've got away with it imo.
Report DenzilPenberthy March 10, 2018 7:01 PM GMT

Report i_agree_with_nick March 10, 2018 7:11 PM GMT
I've looked at another 20 or so comments - still none supporting the woman's case.

This one sums it up for me:

A guy I really liked as a friend did similar to me in the 90s after a few drinks, I just made my excuses and walked out and never made contact with him again. All was fine, I¿d never have dreamt of bringing him to court.

Surely this kind of thing happens all the time. I wonder how many sexual assaults were committed last night?
Report Just Checking March 10, 2018 7:15 PM GMT
The other day they were debating in westminster if people who are thought to have been "misogynist" should be treated as a hate crime. That's how mad it's become.
Some Tory MP said, quite fairly surely, that if it is then the reverse should be true, misandry, i.e. women doing the reverse to men, should be a hate crime.

And he seems to have been mocked for it. What sort of justice system is it that would divide the population in two, say that if group A say/do something B object to, then it's a hate crime, but if group B do the exact same to group A, it's not a hate crime?

Have we totally *****ing lost the plot?
Report Just Checking March 10, 2018 7:21 PM GMT
THere was the guy last year (medical student) who had consensual sex with a woman who I think he'd arranged it on Tinder, and she then later went to the police objecting to the way he'd grabbed her breasts. (They continued etc after this happened). He was convicted of assault and put on this register and had his life turned upside down, I think he was thrown out of uni etc, then later it was thrown out on appeal. But not before huge damage to him.

Report Just Checking March 10, 2018 7:23 PM GMT
And don't lets get started on the woman who had consensual sex but pretended she was a man and who was sent down for a whopping 6.5 years.
Think of all the horrendous crimes we've seen that have had sentences of a fraction of that.
The system is a joke.
Report Just Checking March 10, 2018 7:25 PM GMT
If I had sex with a "woman" tommorow and it turned out to be a man who was a transexual who hadn't told me and I kicked up a fuss, I'd probably be in trouble myself for a "hate crime", not them for what I would consider to be a deception, which seemed to be the basis of the above crime. I really don't get the consistency there.

Simple solution to take any fodder for division away from the nasty liberals. Grant the people their basic human rights already that you enjoy too.

humans are biological creatures and sometimes we behave irrationally without thought
