You can't really take too much notice of the Oscars. A classic example is in 1976 'Rocky' won best picture beating 'Taxi Driver' and 'All The Presidents Men'!
Another year, 1995, 'Pulp Fiction' lost out to 'Forrest Gump'. I would have done my dough big time there most definitely. I've only seen Three Billboards in the list of best picture so I can't have a bet on it but if it doesn't win then the winner must be a very solid 9/10 job in my book.

The Best Picture seems to be the only major gong still where there is any query left. The lack of competition doesn't inspire confidence but I too love the Oscars. There's always something of interest although usually not as bonkers as last year's envelopegate. What I hate is watching the media just turn it into a nationalist thing. We have to be repeatedly reminded because we are obviously morons, of all the GB/Irish/French/Australian nominees - delete as appropriate wherever it is you live. Media seems to have a free rein just like the Olympics to go all jingoistic. Must be worse watching it in America.

I've seen all the films nominated, most more than once, for the major awards, apart from Lady Bird, which judging from the trailer wouldn't be my cup of tea anyway, although I do really like Saoirse Ronan as an actress. These are my picks for who I think should win, not who I think will win. Would of liked to see Phantom Thread in the Best Picture nominations, but it isn't, so I could not pick it.
BEST PICTURE Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
BEST ACTOR Daniel Day-Lewis, Phantom Thread
BEST ACTRESS Meryl Streep, The Post
BEST DIRECTOR Martin McDonagh, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY Get Out
BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY Blade Runner 2049
BEST VISUAL EFFECTS Blade Runner 2049

At every single televised ceremony so far this awards season, the four major categories have all been won by the same four people.
Whether it's the Baftas or the Golden Globes, the major prizes have followed this pattern:
Best actor - Gary Oldman
Best actress - Frances McDormand
Best supporting actor - Sam Rockwell
Best supporting actress - Allison Janney

Don't Hollywood actively promote shooting and killing in most over their films for the last 60 years.

Can't believe anyone watches this heap of shoite. Luvvies patting each other on the back for doing fcuk all. They have an inflated position in society. They get very well paid for what they do so why do they need awards. I watch movies like everyone else but that's the end of it. Very few are worth a watch and some are pis poor. I believe some people stay up late to watch. Hope you enjoy it but I'll be in bed.

There are rumours that Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway will return to this year's ceremony to present the prize for best picture.
After the epic envelope mix-up last year, The Hollywood Reporter has, err, reported that the pair will return so that, this year, they can do it right.

Apparently it is sexist to call an actress an actress, you're now supposed to call her an actor. I've been waiting to see how the luvvie Oscars address this problem - I reckon in a year or two they will rename the categories Best Male Actor and Best Female Actor.

“My deepest thanks to the academy for this glorious prize,” Oldman says.
“The movies – such is their power - captivated a young man from South London and gave him a dream.
“I’d like to salute Winston Churchill who has been marvellous company on what has been an incredible journey.”
Oldman also thanks his mother who is “99 years young next birthday” and who is “watching from the comfort of her sofa”.
“Put the kettle on – I’m bringing Oscar home.”

Well all I can say is that The Shape Of Water must be one hell of a great film because I gave Three Billboards 8.2/10 and for me that is an extremely high score. I'll get around to watching it one night this week.
