Disgusting !
.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/43235314

England head coach Eddie Jones says he was physically and verbally abused on his way back from Scotland and will no longer travel by public transport.

The Australian travelled alone in standard class on the 09:15 GMT from Edinburgh to Manchester Oxford Road on Sunday after England's 25-13 defeat.

Jones was verbally abused outside the station after posing for a picture.

A man then opened the door of Jones' car to direct further abuse before the driver and another man intervened.

British Transport Police (BTP) told BBC Sport it received a report of a further incident as Jones travelled on the train from Manchester to London later that day.

Officers met the train at Euston, after a report of verbal abuse towards a man on board. No arrests were made but enquiries continue.

Virgin Trains said it would "cooperate fully" with the BTP in any investigation.

Speaking on Wednesday, about using public transport, Jones said: "I'll make sure I won't in future. It's as simple as that."

It is not clear whether the men who confronted Jones outside Oxford Road station - shown in a video obtained by BBC sports editor Dan Roan - were rugby supporters.

Scottish Rugby said on Thursday it was "appalled" by the verbal abuse suffered by the England head coach.

"The disgusting behaviour of those involved does not represent the values of our sport or its fans," it said in a statement. "The dignity Eddie and the England team showed on Saturday is in stark contrast to this ugly incident."

Jones claims comments made by Scotland great Gavin Hastings did not help.

Former Scotland and Lions captain Hastings, who won 67 international caps, said opposing supporters of Jones' team wanted to "rub his face in the dirt".

"I'm a human being. I don't consider myself any different from anyone else, so for me to travel on public transport I thought was OK," added Jones.

Jones sounds like a right mug to be fair. What was he thinking? If England had won he'd have received the same abuse. You wouldn't have seen Cantona heading off to Lime Street Station after a match at Anfield would you?
Report The Leopard March 1, 2018 1:28 PM GMT
Cantona was french !

Not made of the same stuff as Aussies !

Very unlucky to find himself near a bunch of Scots celebrating a sporting triumph. Odds must be around ten billion to one?

Come on ! That's an exaggeration !

Report SontaranStratagem March 1, 2018 2:43 PM GMT
He likes to sound off pre match though? I'm English and even I think he should tone that down, its only fair he gets some verbal back when it goes wrong, maybe not physically abuse him but I bet it was a little push or something, you know how pathetic the media are in regards to little things.
Report Whisperingdeath March 1, 2018 2:54 PM GMT
It was a bit pathetic from those " Scots ". First of all were they? Secondly I find it hard to believe they were Rugby fans. I was in a packed pub in Ireland last year for the Grand Slam match we lost. I did not get a single word of abuse.
Report Injera March 1, 2018 5:08 PM GMT
The video suggests very strong Scottish accents!

I thought it was cowardly and pathetic. Also ignorant calling him an English ******

"I'm a human being. I don't consider myself any different from anyone else, so for me to travel on public transport I thought was OK," added Jones.

I've never seen him but he sounds a very grounded man judged on the above.

Except with all the money he earns he is a mug from travelling on the train with the great unwashed! I think he is a decent fellow and clever. He should should have kicked the ginger Jock in the houlies!
Report SontaranStratagem March 1, 2018 8:03 PM GMT
It wasn't really that bad in the video tbh, they were a bit rowdy but they weren't getting aggressive imo, if they got up in his grill etc I could understand, he got into the car and one of the idiots opened the door but then shut it again. best thing to do is just let them sound off and get away, which he did and they just carried on mouthing off. the media making a mountain out of a mole hill again.
Report paulypaul March 1, 2018 8:28 PM GMT
Sweet Jesus, the Jocks don't win much. They could have been justified in holding a national holiday after Saturday, as it is so rare they win anything.
as far as the behaviour towards Jones, there are to$$ers everywhere, not just in Scotland, although there are more there.

Report The_KAMIKAZEE_DRINKING_MACHINE March 3, 2018 11:41 AM GMT
I would've thought the England squad would travel as a group. I can hardly believe 50+ players and staff go home via whatever and Eddie gets on the train. Just going on the video it wasn't that bad and I doubt Eddie ever felt threatened. Even though Australia is the land of the drunken yobbo (I'm one of them) I'd be surprised if a Wallaby supporter carried on like that to an international coach.

Kamikaze - He was travelling to Manchester to see Man Utd play apparently (at the invitation of Sir Alex).

The truth is, there are knobs in all walks of life nowadays - 99% of Scottish rugby fans wouldn't do that but it is always the minority that tarnish the rest.

Do you really believe 90% of Scots are like that and the Irish aren't much better?

Like I said here already I have been in a pub in Ireland with an England rugby shirt on and watched us lose the Grand Slam decider last year. Not one word of abuse at all. Maybe the nice 10% were all in the same pub in Navan?

Really that sort of comment is beneath you!

Even the " professional Jocks " who live here and and " hate " the English are usually polite and well mannered, just whingey. To be fair, coming from Scotland who could blame them, the only thing worse than living in England is living in Scotland!

Report Platini March 3, 2018 2:53 PM GMT
Scottish definitely but 1.01 they weren't rugby fans.

I've no sympathy for Jones - the man is obnoxious and the very definition of arrogance. He's an idiot for taking public transport.
Those 2 that harassed him were just your typical idiots, I'm not condoning their behaviour but if you think that constitutes abuse or was in any way physically dangerous, you need to come out your comfy surroundings and take a walk down a Glasgow street one night Laugh

I would like to think The Convict is ARROGANT!

He is coach o the Greatest nation on earth. The nation with more rugby players than anyone else. The nation through history that has ground and pounded weaker foes into dust. He has fantastic players to work with, some real talent with plenty more to follow them and depth that is the envy of world rugby. As for the Scots they hate the English more than anyone but like the Indians they wish they were English!

The question over obnoxious is another thing. I think he can be combative when required but if you talk to him out of a press conference I am sure you will find an intelligent and well mannered man. How many football managers do you see gracious in defeat. It is nearly always the referees fault! England got beat fair and square. No need to blame any decisions and he didn't.

All that matters is that Scotland won and England lost.
Typically the English blow up a story to try and deflect from the result.

I played rugby, I was a hooker. I have been to countless matches watching my team Harlequins, England and Ireland for more times than I can possibly remember and never once have I or my mates ever had any grief from any supporters of opposing fans, quite the opposite in fact. Win, lose or draw it was always a very enjoyable experience.

Too tight Sippy!

I remember once being in a pub in Richmond early Saturday evening, absoultely rammed. Everyone was was being jostled one way and another. One of my friends was literally being leaned on by someone and said something like " I've had enough of this " and turned round to confront the leaner. He was a little short himself so when he turned round he leterally eyeballed the stomach and chest oh a 6ft 8" London Irish lock.

Everybody started laughing and not a single punch was thrown. You can imagine what it would be like in a football crowd.

On another occasion must have been 2007 at Twickenham the last match before the World Cup England V France possibly a chance for England to beat the consecutive wins record. Anyway after several down by the river we walked up to game. I saw a hawker seeling flags so I bought a French one. I was travelling with a party of neanderthal's so I thought in my booze induced wisdom I'd wind them up waving a French flag.

Let me tell you, there was nearly a fight ( well more like a scuffle ) but that was over who would be the one to wave the flag against our country's second greatest foe ( Germans are the first, live in Kent we still remember the war and of course you can't count the Scots as foes as they have been truly conquered and don't even want independence from us eh Grant! ).

Rarely do you have trouble in a rugby crowd ( I don't count the Northern monstrosity as Rugby! ).
Report Blackrock March 4, 2018 10:45 AM GMT
Mr Holding - does the fact that Ireland beat England when you were in Navan, explain why you were treated so well?

If you were roaring on England and they won, i don't think you would have been so courteously treated.
Report Whisperingdeath March 4, 2018 11:28 AM GMT
I was in The Millenial when we won with the last gasp try.  I did not hold back. No hint of trouble not even in the pub afterwards. Incidentally someone I know got filled in at the same pub another time because he was being a loud mouth yob and got what he deserved but he was Welsh and it was nothing to do with rugby or country.

Trying to intimidate and wind people up is one thing, being joyous when you team wins is something else. In a civilised society you don't take a pasting for being happy, well not when you are watching rugby with civilised people!

I dare say the same with the Jocks and French. Going to Paris next week so I will let you know. I am sure we will win but I was sure we would win last week zut alors!

To be fair Paris is different from the rest of France that is the only propblem. Take the Parisiens out of France and it is a great country!
