Not a chance of getting out here!

I live in what was beautiful woodland, at the top of a 40 metre high Moraine (mound) created at the end of the Ice Age.

The council, in their lack of wisdom, decided it was a good idea to cut down 90% of the trees, in one go, and without announcing there intentions!

This is what's left of it and it is heartbreaking.....

Imagine how it was, and a haven for wild life....

saddo, they did later, when challenged...

"Tree felling is part of standard forest management, with older trees being removed to make way for younger growth.  Many of the trees on site are Scots Pine and Larch, which have a normal life span of around 45-50 years.  Many of these trees are, however, older than this; if left they could become dangerous to people using the site".

Thanks for posting that. An odd looking 'thrush' joined my mistle thrushes yesterday, I was puzzled by the chest. Went out later and round the corner there were at least twenty of these feeding on a tree with bright scarlet berries. I just looked at some pictures and they are fieldfares.

Lots of reports of hungry fieldfares in people's gardens today. Please clear a patch of snow from your lawn and put out some halved apples - this can really help them survive until the thaw comes.

I am thick Sad

I have often wondered about 'Lady Faye Verrit' - now I know it is a play on 'lay the favourite', that brings back memories.  I mostly never actually laid the favourite but most bets of mine were outsiders as I always thought favourites were very poor value, so in essence I was laying the favourite.

Lay the favourite not to place, and with recovery, is the strategy....Wink

Never throw fruit away if you have blackbirds or thrushes around, dunlaying, I buy heaps of cheap yellow label grapes and apples. The blackies prefer apples cutting up small btw.
