Encourages people to get active.  Increases the entertainment for those watching.  Gives kids hopes and dreams.  Money well spent imo.  Most of the Curling money went on facilities.  As with spending a lot of the money is recycled.  The true cost is never known.

If England won the World Cup it would be good for the gambling industry, good for the beverage industry, possibly good for tourism and probably lead to an increase in productivity.

The crowds in Pyeong Chang were terrible I thought.  Incredibly expensive to watch it.  Norway effectively turned down the chance to host the games in 2022, because of the expense, which is why it's ended up in Asia in consecutive games.

Performances of the games:

Shaun White in the halfpipe.  Phenomenal to effectively produce the best run ever witnessed to win gold on his final attempt in his 30s
Eva Samkova to win gold in skiing and snowboarding.  No one else has even qualified for both events before.
Marit Bjoergen winning the 30km ski by a massive margin to become the most decorated Winter Olympian in history.

the ice dancing final was pretty good

the russian ice hockey team singing their national anthem as an act of defiance was pretty impressive

The whole event was entirely devoid of sporting merit.

HTH
Report elise February 26, 2018 2:34 PM GMT
yes eva samkova must have done brilliantly to win both those events because i thought it was ester ledecka
Report DenzilPenberthy February 26, 2018 3:54 PM GMT
agree with jed.davison there has been very little sporting merit on the whole since about 1948 most of what has happened in all Olympics after this time gives more questions than answers the evidence is there for all to find if they can be rsed

Can't expect big crowds to stand around in -15 conditions.

Most events seem to be either on the clock or decided by judges so hardly riveting.
