Who am I to judge, some peoples self preservation is a stronger instinct than others. However I would like to hope if I was in that situation I would of had the mental discipline to overcome my fears and try to do something. This incident shows more guns is not the answer.

Can anyone blame him?
Had he shot the gunman they'd have called him a hero for risking his life and given him a medal possibly. After of course, the inquest to decide whether he'd acted in a proper manner. If he'd shot the gunman before he's opened fire it would be him standing in the dock. Then in a few months he'd be just another bum anyway. While he sees footballers and sportsmen earning fortunes and treated like proper heroes for simply knocking a ball around a park. |

Didn't the security people at that beach/hotel shooting in Tunisia delay their arrival on the scene?
It's not hard to understand the reasoning behind that. |

By:
His job was to try and save the lives of others, that is why he has a gun
Now if you don't understand that basic principle, don't take the job Do something else |

That said I don't like the idea that he was left on his own.
I am a great believer that people in some jobs should work in pairs even jobs such as trouble shooting for faults on things that are important for safety people testing aircraft systems, etc . work in twos that is safer, very much so |

By:
You see the system must be in place that recognises the possibility, indeed the inevitability that people will make mistakes
And the system itself must be able to be robust and safe so that it will not lead to disaster Work in twos is a basic for some jobs |

By:
you are right Dr C about the terrible pressure the police and security people face from many people and many politicians and groups when they must be very wary of being prosecuted for doing their job
Well we have even seen that to be the case when they shoot terrorists |

now the situation he was in was one for trained professionals, I would have preferred it to have been armed military personnel

Remember this iwas in America where it's very easy to justify "Reasonable force" unlike here with the leftie do gooder snowflakes!

That's all well and good lfc but there are many trained military personnel that have not seen active service. Until you've been under fire no one knows how they will react. |

At least two armed military personnel in every school sounds like a great idea. Who could deny that?

The Oklahoma City bombing killed 168 was a domestic terrorist truck bombing United States on April 19, 1995.
Perpetrated by Timothy McVeigh a army veteran of the Gulf War |

96 (if I counted right) mass shootings since 1982 listed here:
https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/12/mass-shootings-mother-jones-full-data/ Only 28 of the 96 were carried out by ex-military personnel. I can't foresee any problems having armed military in schools. |

Mikael D'Haguenet 23 Feb 18 21:34 At least two armed military personnel in every school sounds like a great idea. Who could deny that? Anyone with at least half a brain! They want to cut teachers pay and now they think they can afford to pay at least 2 armed military personnel in schools? Do you really want to see soldiers in school? What sort of world do you want to live in? Do we have armed soldiers in schools in Europe? |

Mike D Hag,
Seeing you are the statto, Could you tell us how many of the shooters get killed in the attacks please? I would be interested to know. I thought they usually get killed but the latest guy didn't. Some turn the guns on themselves. I guess not many ashley go down fighting. Would be an interesting stat. |
