it is good fun. i went on a few work curling nights. trouble is it is very difficult for novices and even with
decent instruction it takes a while to get the hang of it. By the time you are just getting it the session is over |

What's the length of the pitch?
By:
& how much do the curls(?) weigh?
By:
i think about 150 feet in old money. dunno about the stones, that aint light. i seem to remember we were told
all the stones are made by one company in Scotland with granite from the same quarry. |
By:
146 to 150 feet (45 to 46 m) in length by 14.5 to 16.5 feet (4.4 to 5.0 m) in width.
weight between 38 and 44 pounds (17.24 and 19.96 kg) |
By:
The granite for the stones comes from two sources: Ailsa Craig, an island off the Ayrshire coast of Scotland, and the Trefor Granite Quarry in Wales.

Blimey, that's almost an Olympic swimming pool length

How come GB keep the advantage?
By:
Thx Northern & Tictac, I'd heard that said of the Ailsa Craig before somewhere.
By:
i think for some strange reason you keep the hammer if opponent steals trilby. i don't really get that but i think that
is the case |
By:
if you steal 3 i guess you aint bothered

Ok, cheers. Fat lady's approaching the stage unless something mental happens ...

New curling brooms needed ...£1.99 down the asda
By:
when i went curling in the many eons ago they had actual brushes & apparently the scandies favoured old fashioned
flappy brooms. i think they stopped that cos the bristles came off on the ice and the stone would deflect off them |

if it is 0-0 in the 9th Sweden will get the hammer back tho
By:
if UK steal Sweden get the hammer back too. unless there is some other rule in the last couple of ends???
By:
Seems a bit of an odd rule that but I guess it's kind of like loser throws first, in a way.
By:
unless i'm wrong, which is very likely, it seems almost impossible task now. that steal of 3 was game winning

I take full responsiblity for the defeat, I promise not to mention the bronze run, but we Brits always do better at night. cheers.

Nice bit of commentary from Stevie Cram calling good shot as Eve sets the Swedes up nicely for a three against the hammer. Before the next Olympics I'm going to read Curling For Dummies and apply to the BBC for the same free holiday Steve got with thousands of pounds spending money.

By:
Cooked in the 6th end.
Should have been 4-5 not 3-8. Poor delivery by Eve. ![]() |

Did the Boys all have their Stones out while watching the Match ?
By:
indeed akabula. cram's response was ridiculous trying to make out it wasn't over. anyone who'd even seen 5 mins of curling would have known it was a calamitous last stone in that end and there was no coming back from that

By:
chance for redemption for the lassies. i'm sure all us curling experts will be tuning in again
