I think I know why they play this stuff down. I think it's because they're scared of stirring up racial hatred towards people of ethnic backgrounds.

We really should be beyond all this and condemn it for what it actually is. A man raped a girl and used a racial slur to justify his actions. Their respective backgrounds shouldn't play a part in the publicity of this awful event, but we all know it does and imo this only adds to the tragedy.
