I see in the news today Tesco could be in trouble for paying people in the warehouse more than store workers. Warehouse workers are generally men and store workers women.
Birmingham Council also in trouble for paying bin men more than cleaners.
Is this right that the wages should be aligned?
It is unclear if a male cleaner or female bin-person is paid the same as their counterparts from the other gender.
Problem with a lot of this is jobs have £competative no actual salary loads of women got jobs as betting shop managers in my day because as second earner they often asked for 4/5 grand less than the men asked for.But should be same money for same job but that would also then include men being able to go home early if children ill at school, sickness only personnel experience but women have an awful lot more time off.(opens can of worms called MCP)

Highly unlikely to succeed with this claim. They have compared a warehouse role to a shop floor role. They have also taken the median female wage of a shop floor role and compared it to the highest male salary in the warehouse!

I'm afraid all this equality stuff will lead to women being overlooked in favour of men even more than they are now if they have to receive the same pay. In the private sector anyway.
The same as people with extra rights are being shunned by many employers already.

I didn't study the case but the Birmingham one never made sense to me. Seemed to be a technicality.
Very few if any women would do a dustman job but loads of blokes could work in the kitchens.
Dinner ladies is term time work so I've no idea how one can compare it to bins which need emptying all year round.
Anyway, it's PC nonsense as usual. No common sesne is applied in these matters.

As they say would you employ a reliable girl of child bearing age rather than a reliable man of the same age As you would probably have to employ somebody else within two/three years
