I remember two workmen in a big hole in the road looking up at a girl in a very short dress talking to them - would this be a hate crime now?

Cheers, kennymann.
My fascination with London started about then, and I still love it. Also, an accurate record of how it was, viewed from the other end of a lifetime, transcends its ordinariness and becomes something beautiful. Enough of the elegy. When you need a lift, get on kenny mann's link to Totp 1969 "Lets work together," possibly the apex of the whole mini-skirt era. Cheers for that too, kenny.

Glad you enjoyed it guys. From 18 to nearly 69, how the hell did that happen!

There are some real hidden gems since Pathe released all their newsreels a few years back. Just type in Pathe News.

Kenny - as well as Pathe, the BFI have done some fantastic restoration work of 60s footage, and even re-released some obscure 60s films. Their 'Flipside' series has a few gems of this genre.

I found these available at Amazon but the BFI website as a whole is worth a look.

yes, i did get a lump in my throat when i saw it. its still like that in some very posh countryside and cotswold villages, you know the places i mean, the ones where a majority of politicians live..Integration is fine, as long as its not where they live.Plain

So true Dambuster (15:53 post)

It's at times like this we recall the words of a forumite who is still believed to be in hiding after losing a bet on this very Forum at Xmas 2012.

He used to loftily inform us (including London inhabitants) that all the crime, all the terrorism, all the overpopulation and all the bad stuff of Modern London was "a small price to pay" for the fact that there were some "fine dining" in restaurants owned and staffed by immigrants to Britain.

Where did this all-knowing oracle choose to live?  Why, in 98% white Cheshire of course !

If the people of that time could look at footage of London 50 years in the future. I think it would seem an unimaginable nightmare.

The World should be a joy to live in. I don't know where to start with everything that has gone wrong, I could go on all day and add to the ever growing list with each passing day. The sad thing for me is, it really doesn't need to be like this. I just wish folk had more sense.

I refuse to let it get me down though.

Would be great if someone could duplicate the filmwork from exactly the same positions on a similar sunny day and facing the same shops etc and then run the two films alongside.

I love London, Johnny, but it is not the greatest city in the world.
By:
Johnny_Mustang
When: 31 Jan 18 07:38
Yes, of course it's subjective, but it's my hometown and I've yet to see a finer city worldwide.
By:

When: 31 Jan 18 09:08
It's a great city but perpetually locked down. Something to do with its people and police. The greatest city in the world has to have a sense of possibility, of something exciting happening maybe around the corner; London has never had that; its people don't make eye contact.
Chances of a stranger landing in the centre of London and having a great time are the same today as they ever were, approximately zero.
By:

When: 31 Jan 18 09:12
And yet it was the second-highest most visited city in the world last year. 20 million international visitors can't all be wrong.
By:

It's a pity that kennymann's youtube link has been swamped with internet racist comment. The irony is that they all voted Brexit and are doing their best to make white EU migrants feel unwanted enough to go home; after they leave, the overall complexion of the people on the streets of London is going to inflame them even further.
By:

When: 31 Jan 18 09:26
And what's that got to do with anything?
By:

When: 31 Jan 18 10:27
nothing good has come out of London in at least 40 years. A great city has to have great people and must do great things in all aspects of life and the names of these people and what they have done will be recognised as being great worldwide
London is not a great city, it is merely a collection of millions of people as in many other cities in every corner of the world
By:

you see Paris was a great city when it produced the impressionists, London was a great city when it produced the Rolling Stones
