Not always true, sica.
I've taken part in a few of the nationals. Some of the Chasers are there and most of the Eggheads. The last one I was at was won by Paul Sinha. Although the Eggheads do tend to do better overall Most of the questions are not like the ones on the Chase, they're well hard!!! There are a few very good quizzers who are never on TV who regularly feature in the top 10 or so. It's fair to say they're pretty much all professionals though and spend much of their time writing quizzes for TV or Newspapers, or being Chasers or Eggheads. If they weren't nearly all on Saturdays, I'd go in for more, but not being as practised as these people, for me, the top 10 is a far distant dream. |

STUDYFORM, I've long since given up doing pub quizzes, too much cheating. I hosted a quiz in Guilford, a table of twenty somethings got 60 out 60 correct. One of my questions was what year did Lester Piggot win the Epsom Derby on Never Say Die, they got it. That was me done with doing quizzes.

There are plenty of quizzes where it's not allowed, slippy.
I only went to one like you mentioned, in Liverpool. a Team of 3 students, girls who were loudly asking the questions down the phone to friend with computers. Make it clear beforehand - any phones - team disqualified or docked 10 points. Don't let it spoil any potential enjoyment for you though. Better still are one off events, sports centres or village halls with charidee events. Best of all are quiz leagues - there's never any cheating in a league and the quizzes are generally more challenging. |

Slippy - i have a picture of Lester on Nijinsky on my living room wall. I asked the missus what year did Never Say Die win the Derby. She is clueless about racing, and after much thought said 1954. I was speechless.

Just watched a "Celebrity" episode on ITV4
Brad: Which country is to the West of Sweden? Team: Pass Brad: On a snooker table, how many pockets are behind the baulk line? Team: Pass (not even a guess). £100K+ at stake for charity, the chaser fails to beat these numpties. Why? |
