Yes i have two songs ordered. My wife is aware of them.I also have asked her to tell certain family members not to attend.
Sad really. My songs are Hear My Song by Josef Locke and It's My Life by Billy Joel. I don't know your age stewarty but i am almost 73 and just live from month to month now :) |
|

I know the second song Mrdozey1 but will now listen to your first song on You Tube. Pity some family members can be c**** but they probably think the same about me!

That's not an option to me I may add as Ms Stew and myself are not married. That said, the only way I can cover your scenario is 'funeral private'. |

Josef Locke? Never heard of him until now. Sounded Scottish to me but close enough!

Funnily enough I moved in with a woman about the mid 80s and she lapped up Billy Joel. Uptown Girl was 'our tune' at the time. We eventually broke up but hey ho had that not happened along with other 'romances' I would never have met Ms Stew. Fate.
The reason I want that song at my funeral is because we watched the film Philadelphia yesterday as the TV was so grim. It was the last track on the film and I said to Ms stew that that was the best record/tune I had ever heard. I'd seen the film but she hadn't. Anyways, call me a softy but it cut a chord with me. |

* Along with 'Against All Odds' by Phil Collins. Maybe I saw something coming.. |

Ive loved the song Novacaine for the Soul by Eels since hearing it 20 years ago , that will do for me...

The Lord's my Shepherd Not religious myself but funerals seem to need hymns. Being a Baggies fan it's appropriate.
Bread of Heaven Out of respect for Welsh relatives. Very moving when sung by Welsh crowd at Rugby. The Last Post Always brought tears to my eyes. Being ex-service and for family members who gave their lives in WW1/2. All along the Watchtower "There must be some kind of way outta here". Last chance! But also respect for the greatest guitar player ever. |

Abide With me for myself
I seldom go to funerals now. Not out of disrespect but anyways, I can't remember one funeral I've been at that Abide With Me has not been sang. It just seems so appropriate. |

As with the others I may add. |

Never heard of it to be honest but will have in ten minutes time. |

why would you care about a song at your funeral...pointless

Novocaine For The Soul
First time I've heard that one . Interesting but would have to listen a few times to give a true verdict. That said, 5.5 million views on You Tube! |

Indeed postmark but I don't want anyone I love to be upset by some 'choices' some family members might pick to upset others. Hence 'funeral private' and the one song. |

* I'm well aware that some people might not want to participate in a thread like this given the title but at some point we all have to face reality.
The bottom line in my opinion is the old chestnut ...'we're here for a good time....not a long time'. That said, If my doctor said I only had 6 months to live I would be sh!tting myself. Having said that, the very few people I have saw on their death bed seemed to be at peace in a way I can't describe, especially my late father. |

I forgot to comment on that Mrdozey1. 73? No age at all. I don't know your background but I would take 1.01 you have at least another good 20 years at least left in your life. I forget the number but there are literally thousands of people living in this country that reach 100 years old and over. Age is just a number now. One other thing if you don't mind me asking. You have been here since 2006 and only 204 replies?I for one would look forward to more contribution from your good self. |

Non fui, fui, non sum, non curo
My wife is religious, I am not. Funerals are for the benefit of the living and she knows I have left the choice of proceedings to her. It would be unfair of me to specify the type of funeral, whether or not there should be hymns, music etc. If they bury me in the back garden it would not matter to me but it would to her and her family. |
|

I hope Stew will agree with me when I say this is only superficially about funeral music. I see this as more of an exercise in picking out a couple of pieces of music that you wish to be defined by; its just that funeral music provides the ultimate expression of that emotion. The ultimate Desert Island Discs if you like. Vaughan Wiliams' Fantasia on Greensleves, and La Rondine Chi Il bel Sogno Di Doretta for me thank you very nuch.

Seems spot on to me. Waiting for "My way, sinatra" so I can roll eyes and laugh at the same time.. ![]() |

I am 53 and single, so only my family and friends will be at my funeral. Not made a Will yet , but I will have "Going Underground" The Jam and " I am living in a Box" can't remember the artist played at mine. Those who know and love me will all get it. Also followed by " Child in Time " Deep Purple my favourite song , "Ace of Spades " my ring tone for over 20 years and a couple of others I have yet to decide on.

My father-in-law died a few years ago at 96 after a splendid life which included serving in the navy during WW2, three daughters and several grand and great grandchildren.
As the curtain closed to send him on his way at the crematorium, Vera Lynn's dulcet tones treated us to 'Wish Me Luck As You Wave Me Goodbye' and every single person left with a smile on their face. |

Indeed steerforth. Superficial being the word. I only started the thread because of the music at the end of the film which I found enchanting for a better word. |

Memphis Flash
7 years ago Undeniably haunting. You can feel the emotion drip from every lyric, chord and note. Young soaks us in a power so strong one cannot fail to be moved. The strength of this music cuts right through me yet despite its apparent sadness I find it strangely uplifting and positive. Is that just me ? No. Same here. |

Philadelphia is one of my favourite and the song by Neil Young is what I had chosen when I told my wife just in case I was to die. I can't connect to the link but is it that song?
My wife and I broke up 8 years ago but I remember a conversation with my daughter a couple of years ago about death and she told me that her mum said I wanted something played by The Pasadenas at my funeral. |

Harvey Danger's Flagpole Sitta for me as I'm a huge Peep Show fan. I'm hoping people will tell jokes at mine although it won't be mandatory
I have to disagree with foinavon that the service is for those left behind. Imo the service is to celebrate the life of the person who has departed and so having hymns and Bible verses at my funeral would be extremely unlike me. |

The service is about the deceased for those left behind.
A play may be about Romeo and Juliet but is for the audience who will probably have preconceived ideas of what they will see and be happy with, especially if they love Shakespeare. They won't necessarily be pleased to find they are attending an adaptation by Lloyd Webber. |

Steamship, if you can't get it by that link just go into you tube .....music.....and search 'last song in Philadelphia'. |
