It's polluting and killing life in our oceans.
It's a serious global  issue.
Shame you feel ' sick to death of it '

More virtue signalling in action, while ignoring and skirting around the real crux of problem.

The Chinese are indeed terrible when it comes to polluting the oceans, but I suspect that they mostly pollute the Pacific Ocean. Don't think they can be blamed for much of the rubbish that wash up on European beaches. I'm jogging at the beach (in Sweden) 100+ days per year, and I don't think I have ever seen any plastic with Chinese text indicating that it must have floated here all the way from China. Pretty much all the rubbish comes from my own country or nearby contries.

Littering is wrong mkay?

1.8 billion tonnes? Ohhhh Jayshus Chrisht! That's wrong, you've added a factor of 1000.

The plastic bottle has saved more lives than any other invention of my lifetime. Mostly children. Millions die every year from contaminated water. The biggest killer of children worldwide. The plastic bottle enabled cheap distribution of safe drinking water.

My local beach is regularly cleaned (by volunteers) and the plastic, i'm told, makes up for approximately 80% of the waste collected. Drinking straws are another pet hate of mine, used for seconds and then take 500years to degrade. Surely we can come up with an eco friendly alternative to these things.

Litter louts are contemptible people.

@pxb this is true, but... have you ever visited a country where the population uses bottled water as it's primary source of supply? The volume of plastic bottle litter is unreal. Surely in this day and age, pursuing the supply of clean (not bottled) drinking water to ALL should be something to concentrate on, rather than pi**ing away billions on driver-less car technology. I know, there's no money in it, but it would probably save more lives and the environment, than driver-less cars.
