They could have politely declined explaining their reasons.
I have trouble believing it was possible to travel 238k miles, drop down to the moon, do their walkabout, go back up to the Apollo and fly 238k miles back again. Hopefully it will be attempted again in our lifetimes and we can watch with interest. |

If somebody in effect calls you a liar then in no way am I going to respond to them politely. Refusing to swear on the bible is evidence of nothing apart from refusing to swear on the bible.

Has anybody mentioned firing a LASER at the reflector left by astronauts on the moon? I was under the impression loads of scientists have been able to achieve this over the years. Isn't that proof positive?

lfc - I did jury service and became very uncomfortable at swearing on the Bible. ------------- If you are called up for Jury Service - and upon presenting yourself, declared - quite honestly - that you are Atheist or agnostic - and therefore, could NOT/would NOT 'Swear on the bible' - would you then be excused that Jury Service? - and if so - would you then face some kind of a Prosecution?... which, in that case, could open up a real legal wrangle. |
|
By:
So the argument is that a number of men whose careers have been a complete fiction and have lied about their achievements, lied to their wives and children and who have lived for decades in fear of being exposed, balk at "swearing on the bible".
Do you realise how stupid that sounds? |
|
By:
re Jury service I said I wanted to affirm, rather than swear on the bible. I was the only one of the forty or so who were up for service to request this.
|
|
By:
btw it was offered to the potential jurors not requested by me.
|
|
By:
As I mentioned earlier, like Dave I opted to affirm rather than swear on a religious book when called for Jury service. You are not required to give a reason. I was the only one to do so in the jury group.
|
|
By:
dave's right - you're offered the chance to affirm if you don't wish to swear.
As for these astronauts..given the hoax theories surely you would all get together in a room with a conspiracy theorist and swear on the Bible together or affirm if you were uncomfortable with swearing. This is America we're talking about. In the clip I saw some agitated blokes threatening violence and one (Aldrin) saying ' we were just passengers'. That's one of the strangest things I've ever heard!!! It wasn't the number 26 to Waterloo! |

"Radiation like this could harm the guidance systems, on-board computers or other electronics on Orion," Smith says. "Shielding will be put to the test as the vehicle cuts through the waves of radiation… We must solve these challenges before we send people through this region of space." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yaLEFAccak |

Torque, the LRRRs (Laser ranging retro-reflectors) were mentioned in the third party evidence link I posted earlier.
They are still in use for lunar ranging. They had to be accurately positioned by the astronauts in order for them to work. |
|
By:
The only result of them swearing on the bible would be the mentally unstable stalkers adding blasphemy to the list of alleged crimes and lies.
|
|
By:
That Bible stuff, is a mighty obstacle they've set the moon walk believers to jump.
|
|
By:
I can't see any way of getting around it now.

By:
We have already been through all that Dr Crippen.
Lots of space probes have been sent beyond earth orbit and their electronics functioned correctly. You don't send humans through the dense areas of the belts in order to minimise exposure. |

''Going through it'' is not resolving it Foinavon.

Thanks for the - "Affirm" - answers - re: Jury Service.

Since the moon landings (238 000 miles) the furthest a human has been into space is 385 miles.

Do you believe a spacecraft landed on the moon? Do you believe that broadcasts emanated from that spacecraft as it traveled to the moon and after it landed there? Yes or No to these questions. |
|
By:
A very small reflector on the moon is, I'm fairly sure, too small to see from Earth - let alone fire a laser beam at.
Despite (another) urban myth to the contrary, you can't even see the Great wall of China from space and that's a good bit bigger than anything left on the moon. As Charlie said, if I'd done something remarkable only for people to rail against me and accuse me of making it up, I'd be narked too. It would be fair to assume they don't feel they need to justify themselves to some idiots trying to make a few bob or a name for themselves. As was also said - there is not a shred of evidence to suggest they didn't go to the moon. The desire of conspiracy theorists to disprove moon landings is just so they can say "told ya" to everyone else. |
|
By:
What more can I say Dr C other than they chose the trajectory to minimise exposure. There was also radiation shielding on the command module.
If you want to see the "math" NASA even oblige with that. https://spacemath.gsfc.nasa.gov/earth/3Page7.pdf |

i went to see a hypnotist when at uni.
he got everybody to place their hands behind their head with fingers interlocked, he then gave some speel and those with fingers still interlocked were his assistants for the night. seems as if internet websites use these fake pictures as a means of locating their assistants..... |
|
By:
Emitdeb, if the death sentence were given for murder, would you convict someone of that if the evidence leaned 60-40 in favour of them being guilty?
I know I wouldn't. |

we are talking about did man land on the moon and walk on it in 1969? I say no and with that photo from 72 I have grave doubts it happened then

I think this show (Mythbusters) does a pretty job of debunking the most common arguments (the 'waving' flag, non-parallel shadows, etc) put forward by conspiracy theorists. They also test out one of the retroreflectors.

they could not land on the moon. The space suits would not protect them from the cold.FACT.

I think their mothers told them to pack some extra thick cardies! ![]() |
|
By:
no,the story goes that they went through an area of space called the van allen belt on the way to the moon.
The area of space is littered with radiation.(but nasa say they only got small doses of radiation due to their protective space suits. But unless they changed suits along the way the same suits containing radiation on the outside were worn while walking on the moon. radiation will transfer temperatures meaning they would frozen to death, due to transfer of temperature. |
|
By:
Do you have any education at all, Brassneck?
|
|
By:
they had mice onboard wired up to monitor radiation
scary stuff.... theres a good few photos of the lunar landing sites taken by the lunar orbiter from less than 10 years ago, you can see the tyre tracks from A17, .of course photos are easily faked [:smiley smiley smiley:] |
