Catastrophic, but it got worse, because the pound has fallen since, especially against the Euro.
Reader, you may think currency fluctuations do not affect you, you are so wrong. It is different for the rich but, for most readers, your wealth is tied to the value od the pound. When you login to Betfair, your sterling balance is now worth 12/15% less than the player you betting against - if his bank is in $ or EUR. You are equally the poor relation of Europeans in real life. The good news is that you can reverse your self-inflicted injury, by working towards the Second Referendum in February 2019. Britain staying in the EU would result in the greatest one day rise of any major currency in one day. £20k is a conservative estimate of the benefit to your household.
Readers are respectfully reminded that betting investments can go down as well as up.
There was, for example, a 'Remain' voter on this Forum who informed us he had put his 'full bank' (at long odds-on) for 'Remain' to win the 2016 EU Referendum.
It would be callous of me to identify him here. I have no wish to add to his already grievous public humiliation.

I refer all to my thread "Get all your money out of the UK"; (helpfully bumped on the Politics forum).
There is another killing to be made, vote Remain next time. Why are Brexiteers afraid of the second vote once the picture clarifies? Because they will lose.

Can I also remind readers that they should always beware the advice and motivations of those claiming they have spotted a lucrative betting opportunity.
We have, for example, a 'Remain' voter on this Forum who loftily informed us that any potential negative financial implications of Brexit wouldn't actually matter to him and his family. He savoured the opportunity to advise us that he and his family "will always be all right".
The very same individual also started a thread just after the 2016 Brexit vote stating he hoped that Brexit would 'prompt a deep recession in England".
Again, I have no wish to name and shame the individual concerned. Alas, he needs no help from me in arranging his own humiliation.

To put trilby22 out of his stuttering misery, I'll happily step up. I don't suppose I'll receive due thanks, my address is not to these ingrates but to the uncommitted voter who wants the best for his country. Vote your family £20,000 (minimum) richer and let the agitators consume their own bile.

"To put trilby22 out of his stuttering misery" ... cheers UB. You're a decent enough bloke. Just need to wake up and smell the coffee Bruv.

The £20k is of course yet another remainiac lie. But let's for a second assume it is true. The following link shows remainiac in chief Nick Clegg claiming there will not be a European army.

The following link is from today - announcing a European army.
Given they have already started a war in Ukraine without an army and then threw said country under the bus when Putin got involved I would say £20k would be an extremely cheap price for getting out of what is to come. But as I have said, the figure is a lie anyway.
On another matter if the the people of Catalonia want freedom and independence they had better get a move on. Once this army is in full swing any descent from a member state will result in this new army becoming involved and they will make sure they send units not from the region in question.
The ever increasing similarities of the EU to the USSR are truly frightening.
Has anyone ever looked at their House of European History in Brussels? The revision of history and glaring omissions tell you all you need to know about their views. A disgraceful exercise in propaganda paid for by the UK tax payers.
Enough! WE ARE LEAVING THIS STINKING, CORRUPT BUILDING.

Oh I remember that night so well. For how many months did he go on that I had lost my wonga by backing Brexit? It felt like forever and a day. And then cometh the hour cometh the 17.4 mighty and noble Brexiteers to free the country and land my bets whilst simultaneously breaking that plonkers bank.

Nick Clegg - Oxford Unions Debate on the EU Referendum - November 2015
"We also know that even if we decide overwhelmingly to stay in, there will be some voices and I hope it isn’t Nigel (Farage) or Sir William because I think this is a fate that shouldn’t befall them as they are decent, decent characters. But there will be some people who like those Japanese soldiers who continue fighting the last war because no-one had told them it had ended (in some Pacific island), who will carry on arguing and arguing and arguing………………………………
The rest of us will just move on and carry on with the rest of our lives"

Burt, stop wandering around dead museums in Brussells and consider what harm the EU has ever done to you? Certainly, I have been happy and free living my whole life under the EU, but anyone with a real grievance can post below. My feeling is that most people against the EU haven't really felt it impinge on their personal life, they're just parroting what the right-wing media have told them to be indignant about. Which is a bit sad.
Gin - I wasn't going to mention it but, how's it feel being the wrong side of Nasdaq for the last five months? Will you ever get that time back, I wonder.

For non-zealots on here, the best thing you can ever do is to vote Remain at the second referendum. And if you voted Leave first time, drop to your knees for the chance to atone to the younger generation.

Casemoney - If the flare-up in Catalonia proves anything, it is that they would rather be Spanish than Brexit. Nobody in Europe wants to identify with Brexiteers.
Gin - Sorry, some old thread on T&F re Apple and Menelaus I thought was yours..

Actually unless you keep your money in cash in the bank most people will have savings in ISAs or pensions funds, both generally tied to the FTSE which has been hitting record highs. Which is good for savers and good for pensions funds. Also the lower pound (which many considered overvalued) has helped exports and tourism.
HTH, sorry if some facts pees over your remoaner pity party.

It's a lot simpler than than that, Just Checking. It's like this: when you match a bet on this site, the value of your stake is 13% less than that of another playing in EUR or USD. In other words, you are now taking 5/6 on the toss of a coin. You are now their poor relation, Just Checking, in real life as on the exchange.

That will be nothing till when they have their european army to back up any closing down of opposition. Likewise the arrest warrant for opposition activists. And do not try to tell me this is not going to happen. Part of it has already.

Ah, I remember now – just had a look at the thread you mentioned.
That was just an opinion and not one backed up by cash (ie shorting). I try my best to look out for cheaper assets (not easy in this environment) and have been invested elsewhere.
It was a good call by you though – the Nasdaq is up 16% in those 8 months (although due to the rise in the pound vs USD since then, you can knock a few percent off). That compares well to 10% for the S&P.

Au contraire, Platini, a strong currency makes all of us richer. While we need to be patient, I'm very optimistic that friendly forces within the country can come together and reverse Brexit. And the people will be rewarded with the biggest one-day rise of any major free-floating currency ever. Talk about a feel-good factor!
